Ruling allows Spitzer's probe of banks
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge refused on Monday to grant a temporary restraining order that would have stopped New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer from investigating large U.S. banks for their lending practices to minorities.

The order was sought by The Clearing House Association of 11 banks and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which are suing Spitzer's office on grounds that states do not have jurisdiction over national banks.

Judge Sidney Stein in the Southern District of New York handed Spitzer a symbolic victory by allowing his probe to continue despite the suits.

Eight of the 11 banks are federally chartered national banks, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co. Citigroup, Deutsche Bank AG, Wachovia Corp., Bank of America Corp. and The Bank of New York Co.

1. I like Eliot Spitzer a lot - all the right people hate him.
the money men, the greed heads and the corporate fixers and their bought congressmen and senators and reporters all rail about this man. Why? Simple - He's the only one the GOP and their owners can't control and it drives them mad. It's one of the many things that hurts about Kerry losing - can you imagine the panic on K street if Spitzer was Attorney General?

5. Spitzer is the only barrier between corporatists and their complete raid
of public funds in corporate stock.

6. Based on what I know now....
I could enthusiastically support Spitzer in 2008. I hope he goes for it.

7. Gosh, imagine! The chief law enforcement officer of the state CAN
investigate wrongdoing in his own state!

WOW!

Now if they'd just let the states count votes....

8. New York has a gem in Spitzer
If for some reason we don't take back the White House in 2008, I think Spitzer would be a fine candidate for 2012 (I'm positive he will be New York's next Governor).
