BOSTON (AP) - Boston's FBI scandal was already disturbing enough: agents taking bribes, shrugging off gangsters' crimes, and shielding informants from police. Now, it has turned almost unthinkable: A retired agent is charged with aiding a mob hit on a reputable businessman.

"I think this does take things a step further, despite all the problems the FBI has had," said Ronald Kessler, a journalist and historian of the FBI. "I think murder is the ultimate crime."

I find this an odd statement. The charging of Rico may be a new development, but this story was broken long ago - Limone has been interviewed several times (a quick Google search turned up this article from December, 2000: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/fbi22.shtml). This guy is an FBI historian, yet he thinks this news is some kind of bombshell? The FBI has been at this lowhanded crap for decades.

Hoover should have been indicted - not memorialized.

Thanks for posting this - I was very intrigued by Limone's story a couple of years back (I think I might have seen it on 60 Minutes?).
