London Times: Terror alert highest ever as police fear new attack
Terror alert highest ever as police fear new attack
By Michael Evans, Sean O’Neill, Daniel McGrory and Stewart Tendler

BRITAIN’S terrorist alert has been raised to its highest-ever level because the London rush-hour bombers are alive and planning another attack, The Times has learnt.

Security services, military and police are on “severe specific” alert — the second highest status and higher than after the September 11 atrocities — after it emerged that the terrorists who killed as many as 70 people were not suicide bombers.

The Times understands that the country’s biggest manhunt is focusing on evidence being gathered from King’s Cross station, which all three of the bombed Tube trains passed through on Thursday morning.

A re-examination of the timings of the explosions has revealed that the Underground bombs exploded within seconds of one another at 8.50am.

Investigators believe that the bombers assembled at the huge station, with its many rail connections, before dispersing to plant their devices around the Tube network....

1. What's Behind the London Attacks?
As I sit in my office today, I hear the whispers of co-workers now utterly convinced our
war on terror must continue. Despite American and British involvement in the Middle
East birthing wave after wave of rebel forces, the Bush doctrine is now justified in the
minds of millions. Petty grievances such as the Downing Street Minutes, the President's
flagging support and Karl Rove's treasonous outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame are
unimportant. A shadowy conglomeration is out to kill us.

2. Literate Brits use "severe specific"alert; illiterate USA relies on colors
Bet the Brits have not been advised to stock up on duct tape - or as some Americans have referred to it, "duck" tape or "ducked" tape.

I expect the British authorities will be much more successful at tracking down their terrorist attackers than Bush has been. And if they turn out to have Saudi passports, I doubt the Brits will use this as reason to increase their troops in Iraq.

3. I thought so. This huge manhunt and they don't have squat.
Hence the working European (continental) law enforcement agencies. Hence the talk of saving oodles and oodles of e-mail so that bad people can be tracked better.

They don't have squat.
