11 Former Intelligence Officers Speak Up on Behalf of Protecting Valerie Plame's Identity

WASHINGTON (AP) - Eleven former intelligence officers are speaking up on behalf of CIA officer Valerie Plame, saying leaking her identity may have damaged national security and threatens the ability of U.S. intelligence gathering.

In a statement to congressional leaders, the former officers said the Republican National Committee has circulated talking points focusing on the idea that Plame was not working undercover and deserved no protection.

There are thousands of U.S. intelligence officers who work at a desk in the Washington, D.C., area every day who are undercover as Plame was when her identity was leaked, the 11 former officers said in a three-page statement.

The former officers' statement comes amid revelations that top presidential aide Karl Rove was involved in leaking Plame's identity to columnist Robert Novak and Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper, and that Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, also was a source for Cooper on the Plame story.

5. FINALLY!!! We had to push the story down their throats all day.
They put it out so late that many of their client newspapers won't be able to add it before the deadlines.

Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 08:05 PM by wishlist
CNN just covered the CIA officers' statment tonight and CSpan had a good segment with Dem Senators Harman and Boxer talking about the national security implications. The Plame leak coverage seems to be expanding today, not disappearing.

Yippee! Republicans is Congress are going to have their loyalty to Bush tested on this one. After all, Bush has just over 3 years to go, but the CIA is like forever, man. This show is getting better all the time.

... which I'm guessing these ACME Dynamite-lighting shitheads in the Bush Regime are about to find out.

And I'd love to see that ACME Dynamite blow up in Turd Blossom's face, and take a bunch of these traitorous vermin with him. Better stock up on popcorn for that one.

20. "You meet the same people on the way down, you screwed on the way up "
I don't know who said it, but I'm sure Cheney, Rove, and Scooper are remembering that saying.

These guys are not just after Rove. They know it leads to Cheney.

How would you like to be a bug in the phonecalls between the CIA phonecalls to the FBI and the Spec Pros office.

This isn't deep throat, it's chatty cathy.

Can;t wait for them to get to the Cheney part.

21. The CIA will want some payback...
They'll have their jobs even after Bushmaster is out of office. They'll have to deal with whoever the next president is. Their loyalty is to their Agency, not the president, and I'd bet they're pissed and are going to do something about it.

23. I think these are the ex CIA that were fired recently because of
being suspected of not enough loyalty to the deranged dimson.

Stupid move.

Old saying: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

But thank goodness the misadministration is full of revengeful small minded bullies and not true politicians.
