California Businesses Must Offer Partner Benefits For State Jobs
http://www.365gay.com/newscontent/101303calContracts.htm

California Sunday became the first state in the nation to require businesses to offer domestic partner benefits if they want state contracts.

Ignoring an appeal from Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger not to sign any new legislation during the transition period, Gov. Gray Davis put his pen Sunday night to the bill which passed the legislature last month. (story)

The law prohibits the state from entering into contracts totaling more than $100,000 with businesses that discriminate in benefits between employees with spouses and employees with registered domestic partners.
