NRA Launches Boycott of ConocoPhillips

IDABEL, Okla. (AP) - The National Rifle Association began a boycott of ConocoPhillips Co. Monday over the energy giant's attempt to block a state law preventing employers from firing workers who keep guns in their cars on company lots.

``Across the country, we're going to make ConocoPhillips the example of what happens when a corporation takes away your Second Amendment rights,'' NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said.

LaPierre was in southeastern Oklahoma for a rally to support employees who were fired by Weyerhaeuser Inc. for keeping guns stored in vehicles parked at work.

After the firings at Weyerhaeuser, the Oklahoma Legislature passed a bill to prevent such terminations. ConocoPhillips filed a federal lawsuit to block the measure.

LaPierre called on gun owners and consumers to boycott all Conoco and Phillips 66 products, and asked Conoco and Phillips 66 retailers to urge the corporation to withdraw the federal lawsuit.

1. I worked where you

couldn't bring guns into the plant nor keep them in your vehicle in the plant parking lot, parking was very close to the plant and easy to walk out at lunch hour and get it if you wanted to go postal.

The NRA just amazes me!

There are other reasons more pertinent to boycott!

4. Many employee parking lots are inside their 'security' perimeter.

As such, the company is not only setting aside land for the parking (and gas guzzling) convenience of their employees, the company is providing a limited level of protection for their employee's cars - except from other employees, of course.

I'm obviously no fan of corporations. However. This one's really a no-brainer. They can park some place else! I've worked in both situations. I've appreciated company parking -- and have disliked paying $10/day when it's not provided.

If we could solve what is obviously their biggest problem, they wouldn't worry about their precious guns.

7. I would think a private company

has the right to enforce any rules it chooses for its employees. So if they say no guns on the premises, including the parking lot, then employees can either follow the rules or look for another job.

8. Ok, so if I were a terrorist, (I'm not) and I wanted to do something

to harm the flow of gas and oil via Conoco and Phillips by going postal with all my guns at a refinery etc, all I would need is a little help from my NRA friends? Well certainly not directly but come on NRA. With this type of insanity you certainly enabling it. As a supporter of the Bill of Right INCLUDING the Second Amendment, I find it rather ridiculous that the NRA would challenge the rights of a corporations action to protect itself. We really need to form our own pro gun group based on sanity and responsibility to counter these NRA NUT CASES as there actions will only lead to the rapid ruin of the Second Amendment rights for everyone!
