Pot activist granted bail in U.S. extradition case(Vancouver)

VANCOUVER — Canadian justice officials can't turn pot activist Marc Emery over to the United States to face possible life in prison after ignoring his sale of marijuana seeds in this country for nearly a decade, his lawyer said today.

"For nine years he's been doing this quite openly," John Conroy told a news conference after Emery was granted bail. "They've known about it, the local authorities haven't done anything about it."

Conroy said Emery has long had tacit permission from Canadian authorities to sell seeds, adding that even Health Canada has directed people who are allowed to possess pot for medical conditions to the Internet to buy seeds.

"Here we have a situation where they turn a blind eye locally and now they're in a position of assisting the U.S. to try to have him extradited to the U.S. where the penalties are substantially greater than here."

I couldn't agree with you any more,for over 300 yrs <1650ad.>Hemp has been an integral part of America.George Washington grew and smoked HEMP,ben franklin wrote the Declaration of Independence on HEMP paper from light created by burning HEMP oil,Abe Lincoln's 2 favorite past times,rocking in his chair while smoking a corncob full of HEMP.In the 1700's it was a crime "NOT" to grow HEMP. back in 1937 people like DuPont, Hearst, Mellon ,J.P.Morgan saw HEMP as a threat to their business so weed became 'Public Enemy No.1"..another thing,today government federally funds 'Methadone " clinics must be 100,000 or more,government permits our kids use "Ritalin" a powerful upper and sick cancer patients cant legally smoke a joint..Shame on the USA.I'll be honest,i'm smoking weed since 63'.High Times magazine estimates their are 20/30 million pot smokers in this country a march on D.C. to support legalized HEMP ....2,000,000 man/women march on washington..wow
