6. That may be why they'll try to get as many as possible now...
Just to accentuate the vacationing promoters of this war vs. the boots on the ground giving up their lives for the cause of the wealthy.

So I suppose he'll break off his vacation to comfort the families of these 14 marines.

83. Hackett and Dean are the only politicians worthy to live in America
(Ritter, Wilson, Boxer, Conyers... few others.)

1. I was sending 10 emails per day to Kerry for 1/2 year during the campaign.
a. "Say you will never take one day of vacation until the Iraq situation is solved."
b. "Say you would not smile one day while our soldiers are being killed and wounded."
c. "Say the truth about Bush being AWOL, drunk, D- student who's father bribed the school with $20,000,000 to get a passing C."
d. "Say Bush was doing and dealing drugs out of the White House during his father's term."
e. "Mention the possibility of psychotic brain damage in Bush from 30 years of drug and alcohol abuse."
f. "Voluntarily submit to exhastive psychological testing."
g. "Call the American Media disgracefully bias and corrupt for NOT running stories on Bush's "coward" escape from Vietnam."
h. "Demand the Harken files are open."
i. "Predict that if Bush starts a war in Iraq he, his advisors, Cabinet, GOP war mongers will embezzle millions."

a. "Say you will never take one day of vacation until the Iraq situation is solved."

Brilliant! When my monthly reports are due, I cant fucking take vacation.

f. "Voluntarily submit to exhastive psychological testing."

No Fucking Way. If they could 'credibly' impugn Kerry's war record, they could spin the hell out of a comprehensive physchiatric exam.

g. "Call the American Media disgracefully bias and corrupt for NOT running stories on Bush's "coward" escape from Vietnam."

Quoted for Truth.

Gee it woulda been great if our candidates didnt act like total pussies ALL the time.

106. You should have been
on his election team. Something about the pile of shit being on yet another vacation while all of our troops are being slaughtered is sickening. He should cut short his vacation, and get his ass back to the White House. He should stop clowning around trying to be cute...since he isn't...and work non-stop on getting our men and women out of there now.

Haven't he and his cronies already made enough blood soaked money to last them and their children for the next for the next few hundred years? This is all his fault. Every death. Every grieving family. Every shattered life, and broken dream on both sides, every bit of it is his fault.

Uniformed convential soldiers with modern weaponry and still only a conflict and you want to call what we are doing in Iraq a War. Come on....... get real...

SYNOPSIS
Investigative journalist Vincent reports on his travels through Iraq during the American led occupation. He uses encounters with Iraqis he met during his four months there as a way to measure US success in fighting "Islamofascism," which he believes justifies the US invasion and ongoing occupation. Claiming to have penetrated the Iraqi mind, he argues that there may have been mistakes in the occupation, but the implanting of "democracy" in Iraq is necessary to protect the US from the "despair and self-loathing at the center of the Muslim world." 21 Marines killed in 3 days of fighting; U.S. journalist slain

Wednesday, August 3, 2005; Posted: 8:20 a.m. EDT (12:20 GMT)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A roadside bomb blast killed 14 Marines and a civilian interpreter Wednesday as they rode in a vehicle near Haditha, Iraq, U.S. military officials said.

The military said the bomb struck the amphibious assault vehicle about 1 mile (about 2 kilometers) south of Haditha, along the Euphrates River about 135 miles northwest of Baghdad. The military said one Marine was wounded.

On Monday, six Marine sniper team members were killed in a firefight near the same city and a Marine was killed in nearby Hit. Twenty-one Marines have been killed in the region in three days. The number of U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war stands at 1,820, according to U.S. military reports.

All 21 Marines who were killed Monday and Wednesday were assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, part of the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.

18. This is major news
but there is no major 'breaking news' about this. Does MSM really care about the lives of American marines? The Air France crash was given several hours of coverage yesterday and no one died. You have to wonder about the alliance with Bushco and MSM. This is disgraceful but bad news about deaths in an illegal war can't be good news for special interests. Guess they can switch back to Aruba now. Puke.

The plane crash had:

o Good, ongoing video with lots of smoke, fire, and speeding cars going by.

o A happy story line ("Can you believe it? Isn't it just a miracle that
nobody died!". "How 'bout those Canadians, ehh? They actually stopped
their cars on the 401 to get out and help the crash victims!")

o Lots of white people with cute accents

The alternative would be to show stories about death, doom, destruction,
and George W. Bush. But I repeat myself.

deserved coverage up to the point where they realized no one died. We all thought that many persons died yesterday. Still, they will continue to milk this. Expect to hear more about miracles than the efficiency of the flight attendants and the Canadian EMS.

My problem is that the same level of coverage is not given to the deaths of American citizens in an illegal war or to issues that expose Bush et al.

"The bomb is reported to have exploded near an amphibious assault vehicle travelling south of Haditha. One other marine was wounded.

At least 37 US military personnel have been killed in Iraq in the last 10 days during in a period of intense violence, but the latest Haditha attack ranks among the biggest US losses.

Last December, 14 US troops and four civilian contractors died in a suicide bombing targeting a military base in Mosul."

Check out Bill C or the monkey's daddy, they aged noticably. Not the chimp in chief, he has actually gotten healthier according to his recent med examination. Jackass works out 2 hours per day. Must be nice to have such a stress free job. Not that I'd wish any harm to the fuckhead, but whatever awaits him I hope is long and painful.

of that I have my doubts, to really effectively run this country does take a hell of a toll on people, that's one of the reasons I'm so suprised that chaindrive's mechanical heart hasn't given out yet.
I'm sure you've noticed, but they dye the moran's* hair every other week at least.
In some photos it's truly grey and mangy looking, then the next day it's a vibrant brown of a man half his age without any cares.
One other thing if you can stomach looking at the ugly sob long enough, he's awfully wrinkled up, they must do frequent plastic reconstruction on him, but it still shows.

Last throes is a relative term and can mean anything. I guess one can say that in 376 AD, the Roman Empire was in its last throes, which would last for 100 more years. I'd like to know how a 3 week war becomes a 12 year war. I hope Cheney's in his last throes.

98. I disagree. The Soldiers, even in this wretched war, did die for something
So that Americans might someday awaken from this sickening stupor induced by smug, self-righteous patriotism and Faux Infotainment Media. The people, it now seems, MUST be bombarded and have their sensory inputs so saturated with Right Wing Extremism to the point that they become absolutely sickened by it, its consequences, and feel revulsion at the very thought of the GOP, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, PNAC and the NeoCons. This is a path that must lead to the final collapse of an imperialistic America, just as it did for the British Empire, Nazi Germany, France and other nations whose delusions of grandeur eventually led them to buy into their own hype.

The soldiers who perish during this war and their families who suffer for their loss have and will continue to pay an extremely high price. But such is the cost of ignorance and allowing onesself to be caught up in the delusions of nationalistic supremacy.

As hollow as it may sound, even in this very sorry episode of our history, there is a lesson to be learned. In that sense, if we are able to learn it, from the consequences of our delusions, arrogance, ignorance, inaction and shortcomings, the lives of our soldiers lost will not have been lost entirely in vain.

At the height of Vietnam 400-500 Americans were dying every month. We haven't seen anything near that level for any sustained period during the entire Iraq war. Even during the most deadly month of the war (November 2004), "only" 137 Americans died in Iraq operations. Compare to the 530+ who died consistently each month of 1968 in Vietnam:

Just saying.

78. You're right.
It's not as deadly as Vietnam thanks to improved medical techniques in the field. However, because of that fact this war is going to produce more survivors with extremely horrific injuries that would have otherwise been fatalities. And although Iraq is not as bad as Vietnam, it's a much bigger strategic disaster because it's in a region that is vitally important for the entire world.

I was simply pointing out that in terms of deaths and death rate, we are still nowhere close to Vietnam levels, as the previous poster claimed. That's the limit of my argument here. As for the idea that this is a greater strategic disaster, I agree wholeheartedly.

But the average of more than seven deaths a day since August began is much more reminiscent of Vietnam than anything we have seen in Iraq since the beginning of the war. At this moment in Iraq, it feels like a major conflict, and its definitely troublesome.

87. If seven deaths a day keeps up for a week, I might agree
As it stands, we'll probably "normalize" back to 2 or 3 a day over the course of time. I don't think 2 days is enough to indicate a trend, and the month break is arbitrary. We could, for example, break a time period on the day before one of the Chinooks got shot down and start yelling 30 deaths a day! Major conflict! But that would only be for one day, and wouldn't indicate a trend.

Since the middle of last month americans in Iraq have been dying very quickly. During the middle part of July icasualties had the number of dead at 1751, it's now 1821.

Now, my math sucks, but even I can add that we've suffered seventy dead in about three weeks time. If these marines had been killed in twos and threes I don't think we would have heard this much about it.
It's only when the number is large that brings people out of the woodwork.

I don't know that that's what it's going to take though to get people to wake the fuck up.

The Amphibious Assault Vehicle should NEVER have been used for extended in-land operations. It's designed to float, so its armor is 3/4 inch thick aluminum, which makes it an assault vehicle with less protection than an uparmored humvee.

And besides, if you survive the blast, the HFSS Halon Fire Suppression System will have you dead from oxygen deprivation in seconds.

Thanks, Rummy.

I appreciate it...you confirmed what I already feared.

"The Marines are using it as an Armored personnel carrier 'cuz that's what they have. "

Nothing can make the deaths easier for their loved ones to bear, but when I read about the bonuses, millions of dollars, that we taxpayers have showered on Halliburton, it makes me crazy with grief and rage, that the cowards who started this war send our people in without the proper equipment.

To all those who voted for this idiot...I feel like grabbing by the neck, and asking if all these deaths are worth it to them, and the precious "values" they claim to vote for. Is it really so important, which gender is which when it comes to marriage?

Is giving more tax breaks to the same ones raking in millions already from this blood soaked war? Is it so important to insert yourself into a woman's womb, and force her to carry to term a child who might be born with painful, fatal illness, or the child of a rapist, or a child she cannot feed?

I will never understand what caused people to vote for this moran, but one thing is for sure...I will never forgive them, either.

132. Regimental Combat Team or "RCT"...
... basically the same since World War 2.

Essentially the same as an Army Brigade - 3 Rifle Battalions plus supporting or less than 2500 rifles but with supporting can be as high as 5000 to 8000 men and women. They are numbered for the old regiments so... Team 8 is the 8th Marine Regiment. Team 2 is the old 2nd Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division. It used to be composed of 1/2, 2/2, 3/2 but battalions are cross assigned so 2/5 is part of Team 2 but originates from the 5th Marines/1st Marine Division.

It gets screwy because there are also battalion teams, i.e. "BLT"s or battalion landing teams.

141. I'm telling ya, it's NOT people! It's Echelon. The NSA/FBI Blackboxes
attached to every ISP in America (most likely the world.) I'm very closely watched this. It's NOT Freepers. Example: Top six stories on Yahoo Front Page.. Like one about Hillary Clinton with a rating of 4 Stars, from 150 to 300 votes, published for 4 hours. Then you'll have a bad news Iraq story; out for 4 minutes, One or Two stars, 400 Votes. It's statistically impossible. I've posted a good two dozen examples of this on the DU. I'm telling ya, I don't make these things up. Someone, Dean, Franken... someone should try to investigate this!

Oops. I forgot my point. I've it's Freepers rating the Iraq story down they'd take the extra second to rate something down which they hate even more, Hillary.

Condolences to the families.

Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 12:17 PM by underthedome
The troops dying is not oronic since troops from all over the country have been dying not just ones based in Ohio.

But it is Ironic that an Iraqi war vet lost an election to a Repub. who strongly supported Bush just yesterday.

112. Not even the fourth headline on MSRNC at 1pm/12 noon central.
1. Shuttle/walk
2. Air France flt.
3. Man tries to get down from a ferris wheel.
4. Storm in the Atlantic.

Correction: when they actually did the stories, the moved the Marines' deaths up to number three, covering the fact that they were from the same battalion as the six killed on Monday.

CNN:
1. London bomb suspect arrested
2. Shuttle
3. Air France
4. Bush in Grapevine Tx.

no coverage. Top three stories on msnbc does not include this! It is pshychologically bad enough that our troops have to die but it compounds it by 100x when they won't fuc%ing cover it to show all these bush voters they have blood on their hands!

129. My letter to MSNBC

I'm looking at your home page right now and what do I see for headlines?

A coup in Mauritania. That will surely effect me.

Fewer job cuts planned in July. Of course August will make uup for it.

A brain-dead woman gives birth. Wow.

London police are stretched. Terrorism will do that.

Time Warner post a loss. Boy does that sadden me.

But where is the story that should have all true Americans fuming in anger at that silver spoon frat boy who lied us into a war that shouldn't have been? Why, it's there, halfway down the page, in the smallest type on the page. Fourteen more Americans dead for Mad George's Folly. No, sorry. Folly implies a mistake. This was intentional.

Well, some may call it a mistake. I call it Treason. But not many will know about it since the story is buried where you have to dig to find it.

This is journalism? Wait, I think I heard your leader Joseph Goebells calling.

So many of us out here are getting fed up with journalism in this once proud nation today. No wonder you rate right down there with politicians.

Bah!!

I fart in your general direction.

The Reprobate.

134. The msm is a real joke. All that spinning. They should be nauseous
by now. That general today saying that this attack shows how desperate the insurgents are is just unbelievable. The spacewalk, the plane fire, London TERRA TERRA TERRA, and of course, the Aruban mystery, continue to be what's most important. The sheeple continue to be fooled because there is not a feeling in this country that we are actually at war. We don't see it, hear about it, talk about it, so it doesn't exist. And that's just what *co want. It's disgusting. A big FU to Kyra on CNN for all of her unsolicited remarks that seem to be pro rethug, Darin Kagan(we all know why), Monica Crawley, Wolfe Blitzer, Scarborough, Nancy Grace, and the entire Faux news network!

144. Roadside Bomb Kills 14 Marines in Iraq
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050804/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Fourteen U.S. Marines were killed Wednesday when a huge bomb destroyed their lightly armored vehicle, hurling it into the air in a giant fireball in the deadliest roadside bombing suffered by American forces in the
Iraq war.

A civilian translator also was killed and one Marine was wounded. The victims were from the same Ohio-based Reserve unit as five of six members of a Marine sniper team killed on Monday in an ambush claimed by the Islamic extremist Ansar al-Sunnah Army.

The deaths brought to 23 the number of Marines killed in the past week in fighting along the volatile Euphrates Valley of western Iraq and marked one of the bloodiest periods for U.S. forces in months. In all, 44 American service members have died in Iraq since July 24 — all but two in combat.
