Italy: Islamic militants from Iraq redeploying in Europe

ROME, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Militants currently fighting coalition forces in Iraq could soon try to enter Italy and other European countries, according to a report delivered to the Italian parliament on Wednesday by Italian intelligence and security agencies.

The Sisme and Sisdi secret services are on high alert "in a bid to recognize quickly any sign that Islamic fighters from Iraq are redeploying in Europe," the report said.

As well as being a target, Italy is also a base from which international terrorism draws funds, secret services have confirmed.

"They have found evidence of funds being collected and directed towards organizations which provide cover for Middle Eastern extremists and a network, based in Arab countries, suspected of financing terrorism," the report said.
