Bush vows to fight on in Iraq, rejects pullout date
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050803/ts_nm/iraq_bush_dc

GRAPEVINE, Texas (Reuters) - In the wake of the deaths of 14 U.S. Marines in Iraq, President Bush said on Wednesday the best way to honor the dead is to complete the mission and he rejected any early U.S. withdrawal.

"We're at war. We're facing an enemy that is ruthless. If we put out a (pullout) timetable the enemy would adjust their tactics. ... The timetable depends on our ability to train the Iraqis, to get the Iraqis ready to fight and then our troops will come home with the honor they have earned," Bush said in a speech.

Bush insisted progress was being made in Iraq and that he has a "strategy for success in Iraq" by hunting down insurgents, training Iraqis to provide for their own security and helping Iraqi political leaders write a constitution and prepare for elections.

He said U.S. troops would be pulled out "as soon as possible, but not before the mission is complete."

10. A couple things wrong with his premise:
"We're at war. We're facing an enemy that is ruthless. If we put out a (pullout) timetable the enemy would adjust their tactics. ... The timetable depends on our ability to train the Iraqis, to get the Iraqis ready to fight and then our troops will come home with the honor they have earned," Bush said in a speech.

1. I thought it was a struggle - not a war?
2. What about the time table set for Spring 2006? Doesn't that "cause the 'enemy' to ajust their tactics too?
3. What do you mean 'we're'? Bush wouldn't know a war if it bit him on the ass.
4. Will they come home to be treated just like Major Hackett by ilk like Limbaugh and Hannity? You know - support the troops while they're fighting the war so we don't have to send our rich kids but SCREW THEM when they come home? :eyes:

19. The pullout timetable: Enough troops out of Iraq to secure GOP reelection
*Every* decision these fools make is political thanks to Mr. Rove.

So as much as Bush & Co. say right now they do not have a timetable for pulling out, they are already saying that thousands of troops will be home *before* next years Congressional elections. They are not gonna bring all the troops home, just enough to give the impression that we've finished some kinda goal in Iraq. Thus removing the Iraq issue from the ballot box.

From Forbes:

"De Facto U.S. Withdrawal From Iraq Timetable Developed"

"The new U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, on Monday acknowledged that he has created a task force with Iraqi leaders to devise a plan for withdrawing foreign forces from the country. The announcement comes less than a week after U.S. General George Casey, commander of Multinational Forces Iraq, stated that "substantial reductions" of U.S. forces in Iraq could begin in early 2006. Casey's comments were backed by the establishment of an interagency working group that will bring together high-level representatives from Iraq's security organs and the Multinational Forces to coordinate the handover of security responsibilities. "

28. For anyone paying attention to the "pullout" sham
This is how they shamelessly game the nonsense. There will never be a withdrawal of control or massive bases. "Troop reduction" will not even be certain since in fact it would actual begin to look like a rout in a losing battle- which it is.

They will trundle out BOTH things at the same time to play off the MSM addled masses. Experts hinting with massive qualifiers at the reduction coming soon. The adamant statements to the contrary whenever we inevitably get nipped by an intractable insurgency. The issue as THEY would frame it is getting people to settle for the drama of IF the brave and stalwart Bush can tame the situation enough for symbolic troop reductions- and be hailed as a conquering liberator for that alone.

In what we come to lump under Rovian strategy this sham becomes a winnable issue where troop reduction and a sham Iraqi puppet legitimacy replaces the real issue of the war itself and Bush's horrible management and greedy goals. Whatever we can SAY we accomplish covers thus all sins.
"Success" even in a sideshow thus seals all lies.

Thanks to their massive failure the world is not yet buried in Bushco tyranny. But neither have they been stopped. Bolton is in place. And Iran and all things oil are still in their sights.

29. We're at war?
I thought we were at struggle now? Oh, I see it's not as catchy a phrase.

Let's face reality Mr President, you have the blood of those troops on your hands and your poor decisions and blatant lies are what's gotten us into this quagmire you call the "war on terror". And you have no idea how to get out of it now that it has become the poorly managed mess that it is.

You tried to cover your lack of leadership skills by preaching fear and hate to the people of this country, many fell for it at the time. Now many of those people are beginning to see you for the inept, lying, megalomaniac that you are.

History will not be kind to you, of that you can rest assured.
