Gannett acquires Detroit Free Press

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Gannett Co. Inc. acquired the Detroit Free Press Wednesday in a series of transactions involving Gannett, Knight Ridder and MediaNews Group.

The transactions included the reorganization of the Detroit Newspaper Agency into the Detroit Newspaper Partnership, L.P. -- which will manage business interests of the Free Press and the Detroit News, including production, advertising and circulation.

As part of the deal, MediaNews Group acquired the Detroit News.

Gannett is now the general partner in the Detroit newspaper partnership and MediaNews the limited partner. Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

3. This is actually a good thing
Knight Ridder is a good newspaper group. They are one group that actually will get the truth out there. Their papers have constantly told the truth about this administration. They did a very large story on the Sadam-9/11 connection in June of 2004. This a really good thing.

now the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a right-wing rag. (They could have at least left the great Gazette name to history.) A shameful, shameful act of greed -- I could not agree with you more.
