US State Department: We were not aware of news of PKK offices in Kirkuk
http://www.turkishweekly.net/news.php?id=16667

The PKK opened an office in Kirkuk, however the US officials says that they are not aware of the news in Turkish media about the office.

At a press conference yesterday, US State Department spokesperson Tom Casey, responding to questions from reporters, asserted that the US was not aware of the recent news of newly opened PKK offices in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, but stated once again that the US sees the the PKK as a terrorist organization.

Said Casey, "Our views on the PKK are well known. The PKK is a terrorist organization. We are continuing our joint efforts with Iraqi and Turkish allies to keep the PKK from being active in northern Iraq."

Casey also told reporters that he could not give them any information about the three way meetings starting today in Washington on the subject of the PKK.

1. So is the US going to go in and start killing Kurds, now?
What will the US choose to do, if they are caught between keeping their promises to the Kurds and keeping their ally, Turkey, in line? I think the Kurds are going to get one more lesson in dealing with the US Calvary - just ask any Native American you meet (and there aren't be that many left to meet)...

6. Well, the Kurds have been around quite awhile ...
in a very war-ravaged region. And they've kicked European ass before: Salah al Din did a good job on the Crusaders, for that matter.

2. Meetings in Washington?
Where's the pretzeldent?Shouldn't he be in on this?Couldn't this groups presence really stir up some dust over there?Furthermore, how is the US "not aware of the recent news of newly opened PKK offices"????Are they all on vacation?:grr: Is this group a threat?Or is this some sort of backwards excuse to say Iran and Syria are helping the insurgents?I swear the more I read the less I know.Honestly.

3. Sure, you're not..(wink, wink)
You KNOW they've been working with the PKK, who were staunch enemies of Saddam.
They're just trying to placate Turkey. Relations between Turkey and the US are not so warm these days.

4. With Condi at the helm...
is anyone surprised at what the US State Department is unaware of? Ignorance is bliss and the Bushies are in ecstasy.

5. Funny how freedom fighters become terrorists, ...
depending on which country is oppressing them.
