NYPD 'regrets giving bomb detail'

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has admitted making a mistake by releasing details of the bombs that killed 56 people in London on 7 July.

Police commissioner Raymond Kelly told security consultants the devices were probably detonated using mobile phones.

He said they were made in Leeds from household chemicals like hair bleach and stored in a powerful refrigerator.

An official told BBC News the NYPD gave out the details erroneously believing they had been vetted by UK police.

1. UK cops said the 7/7 bombs were made of acetone/hydrogen
peroxide compound a few days after the initial attack and may have been detonated electronically by mobile phone. On BBC TV news.

So I guess NYPD's statement wasn't that original or damaging.

2. I was a bit shocked too...
Had never heard of HMTD before the article (surprising given my pyrotechnic childhood) - Googled it and founds lots of easy recipes.

:scared:

4. This reminds me of a science teacher I had in HS many years ago
He made a pyrotechnic display on his desk from what he claimed was standard household materials and which looked like white powder from a distance, but when interested kids asked him what the chemicals were, he balked.

It always struck me as stupid that he showed the display in the first place, to spark an interest, then withdrew the knowledge of precisely how it was done. He could have just abstained from the pyrotechnics in the first place, if denying knowledge was his intent all along. It was much like a carrot that was kept just out of reach.

Besides myself, I've always wondered if other kids in that class were as turned off by his childishness as I was. I've also always wondered how many more kids he could have sparked an scientific interest in had he disclosed. I'll never know.

What's that smell? Oh looks like a little spot of disinfo-psyops over there.
