Marine recruit dies; second death at San Diego base this week
Aw yes, reminds me of when they paraded a blood soaked matress in front of my recruit formation. It seems that some poor recruit had slashed his wrists after the lights went out on the night before. Joining the USMC is serious shit folks....
SAN DIEGO (AP) - A Marine recruit died after collapsing during a two-mile run Thursday at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot - the second death this week at the West Coast training base.
The private was the 8th recruit to die during training at the base since 2000, according to spokesman Maj. Joseph Kloppel.

2. Lowered qualifications?
I don't know what the story is here, haven't been able to keep up on the news lately. But as I read this the first thing that popped into my head was "I wonder if the lowering of entrance qualification had anything to do with this?"

5. Poor guy. His parents must be devastated.
I guess the physicals they give you before you go in just don't catch everything.

6. That doesn't count...
... deaths at Parris Island, the other recruit depot.

It also doesn't count the number killed in Infantry Training Regiment, or any of the infantry schools.

I wonder how many are killed in Marine training of all kinds every year.

All of us who were in the Crotch remember people dying in training.

7. Good for you Bigmack!
Anybody thats's hip to the term "Crotch" must have a pretty good idea of what's happening in the league of "Uncle Sam's Miss Guided Children". That said, let it be clear that my ol' heart goes out to everyone of those USMC individuals that are currently trying to "do the right thing".
