CNN Suspends Novak After He Walks Off Set

CNN suspended commentator Robert Novak indefinitely after he swore and walked off the set Thursday during a debate with Democratic operative James Carville.

The exchange during CNN's "Inside Edition" came during a discussion of Florida's Senate campaign. But CNN correspondent Ed Henry noted when it was through that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of a CIAofficer's identity.

A CNN spokeswoman, Edie Emery, called Novak's behavior "inexcusable and unacceptable." Novak has apologized to CNN, and CNN apologizes to viewers, she said. "We've asked Mr. Novak to take some time off," she said.

He had to clarify and repeat his original statement (see above) because the immediate RW radio talking point was that Ms. Plame was no longer undercover PRIOR to the publication of Novak's column, which was a LIE.

CNN has created massive coverage of the New Hampshire Primaries - bringing with them on their gaudy Election 2004 bus a host of their news anchors, including one Robert Novak - who is most well known for his obfuscating on CROSSFIRE.


Remember Robert Novak? He's the source of the Valerie Plame CIA outing in the media and has never been called to task for what appears to be a rather substantial breaking of Federal LAW.


As of this date, for nearly 100 days no one in this administration has wanted to touch this - for apparently someone high in the Bush administration has to have passed this information along to Novak, and whoever did that may be culpable legally as well.


It looks like there is some movement in that direction - a Grand Jury is being empaneled for this purpose. To me if looks like Novak is screwed either way. If he tells WHO gave him that information - he has no credibility - if he DOESN'T talk, he may be jailed. He may be jailed anyway - as I understand it (and I am not a lawyer) this is a CRIME.


So it would make sense that Novak is worried - perhaps to the point of losing his cool or his mind - which he did on January 27 outside of the Merrick Restaurant at about 5:15 pm. I was there, I saw it - I even caught the guy that Novak attacked.


I can't get the image out of my mind. Novak looked like a little caged animal - fist locked and *censored*ed back, he wasn't through with his victim before getting hustled off and onto the bus.

In case anyone hasn't heard, Robert Novak has been suspended after swearing on and leaving the set during live TV (video here). Novak, for some reason, has apologized (when he should be commended) and CNN has behaved ridiculously, at least in my view.
Some thoughts:


Novak was accurately defending himself against a charge that he's a partisan hack, a claim that anybody not wearing the "all-conservatives-are-evil" blinders that Chairman Howie passes out at DNC meetings knows to be true.

I'd use rough language too if James Carville, of all people, was attacking me for being a hack.

Did CNN ban, temporarily or permanently, Jon Stewart from appearing on their programming after he used rough language on Crossfire? (By the way, when will Stewart quit congratulating himself for that?) If no action was taken, is it okay to speculate that perhaps the different standards CNN applied to Stewart and Novak have something to do with ideology?

After admitting that they covered up for Saddam Hussein, does CNN really expect me to keep a straight face when they publicly refer to anyone else's actions as "inexcusable and unacceptable"? Can they put a moratorium on moralizing, for, say, the same amount of time they spent going soft on the butcher of Baghdad?

Until the year 2000, when I began obsessing over politics, I never realized just how much I could despise someone. Yet, as time went on, I found that I despised others like him even more. Heres a top 5 list for everyone:

5 Ann Colter- for her lack of knowledge and decision to open her mouth anyway.

4 Bill O'reilly- how in all that is blessed on this earth does this man get away with lying to
the American public every day? I would love to climb up there and --- you know.

3 Tucker Carlson- Alex Keaton was a fictional character. Enough said?

2 Sean Hannity- See #4 and add to it his complete contempt for anyone who is poor, non
white, and educated.

And Finally:

1. Ken Mehlman- Although he is not technically a "reporter," he is so intertwined with the
news these days that he should be counted. This man is utterly despicable, both in his
words and his actions. Plus he writes the points that all of the above monsters repeat
verbatim.
