U.S. military launches attacks in western Iraq in bid to disrupt insurgent
Who could have predicted this? A bold attempt to retake the PR initiative.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - About 1,000 U.S. Marines and Iraqi forces launched attacks in western Iraq in an operation aimed at disrupting insurgents and foreign fighters in the Euphrates River valley, the U.S. military said Friday.

The operation, dubbed Quick Strike, began Wednesday with Iraqi soldiers and Marines positioning their units, said a military statement. They focused on an area centered around the cities of Haditha, Haqlaniyah, and Parwana, about 130 miles northwest of Baghdad.

On Wednesday, 14 Marines and their civilian translator were killed when their vehicle was hit by a massive roadside bomb near Haditha as they were traveling inside a lightly armored vehicle.

On Friday, U.S. and Iraqi troops, including Special Operations forces, moved into the city of Haqlaniyah, the Marine statement said. U.S. jets conducted an airstrike on insurgents hiding in buildings outside of the town.

4. Interestingly enough, predicted here:
The next step expected to be taken by the American occupation force following this announcement is the commitment of a new war crime against the innocent civilians in Haditha and Haqlania as a cowardly vengeance act in order to deviate the attention of the mass media away from their failure and unwillingness in rescuing their colleagues.

7. Iraqi Troops Call in U.S. Air Strike to Root Out Insurgents
Iraqi Special Operations Forces early today called in an airstrike on insurgents in buildings outside the western city of Haqliniyah, the U.S. military said.

U.S. Marine pilots provided support by attacking the militants who were responding with small-arms fire, the military said in a statement e-mailed from Fallujah.

About 1,000 Iraq Security Forces soldiers and U.S. Marines on Aug 3 positioned their units in Haqliniyah, 7 kilometers (4 miles) southwest of Haditha in al-Anbar province, to prepare for the operation, dubbed ``Quick Strike,'' according to the military.

The objective of the assault ``is to interdict and disrupt insurgents and foreign terrorists' presence in the Haditha, Haqliniyah, and Barwanah area,'' the military said.

8. "Disrupting" the insurgents?
My, but that sounds a bit defeatist, no?
Like, we aren't going to 'destroy' them, or 'root them out', or 'eliminate' them?

I guess we are down to just trying to discourage them.

:eyes:

Is this part of the lingo they are using to slowly begin to admit defeat to the Murkin cheerleading public?

13. yes, we'll kill some people, then leave
and they'll come back.

how is it that no one can see{who's in charge, that is} the endless cycle of this?

well, i guess it's more important to get those military contractors some tax payer dollars than it is to care about our troops lives and the lives of the innocent civilians who will be killed along the way.
