Novak Apologizes for Swearing on CNN Air
NEW YORK - Robert Novak apologized Friday for swearing on the air and walking off a CNN set, but said it had nothing to do with the federal probe sparked by his revelation of a CIA officer's name in a 2003 column.

"I apologize for my conduct and I'm sorry I did it," he said in an interview.

CNN has pulled him off the air indefinitely. Novak said "I'll follow their guidance" on when he returns.

CNN correspondent Ed Henry said afterward that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of Valerie Plame's identity, which Novak has repeatedly refused to comment on aside from some references in his column.

57. the traitor within is destroying the outer man
Every day this man, that thought he was patriotic, must look into the mirror and see the traitor within. He knows he is a traitor and he knows they are destroying America and it eats away at him. Day after day he fights his inner traitor, he tries to put on a good face but he knows he is a traitor that is helping to destroy the same America he thought he fought for over the years and it becomes more and more difficult to contain the feelings. Look for more of these outbursts, look for this shell of a man deteriorate as the traitor within destroys his soul.

11. Did ya hear about the book? Who's Who? that was on the table
I think it's very interesting. Carville pulls out "Who's Who in America?" and Novak goes ballistic. Novak knew that if Carville asked,"Did you get Valerie Plame's name from this book?" that he'd be put in jeopardy.

Because a main point of the case is how did Novak know her name was Valerie Plame? Did Rove give it to him or did he read it in Who's Who?

28. Actually, just saying Wilson's wife works for the CIA was the worst part.
Finding out her name was a piece of cake. We could have found out that, probably much quicker than Novak, just by posting the query here at DU. Her name was not the secret, her job was. :)

42. Yes, you're exactly right, and I don't understand
it when Repugs say that "she outed herself" or "her husband outed her".

Outed her as what? Joe Wilson's wife? I seriously doubt he ever introduced her as "my wife Valerie, the covert CIA agent", or "meet my wife Valerie, she works for the CIA".

43. The point is thought that Novak claims he got her name from Who's Who.
But ever since she was married (apparently) she has used the name Valerie Wilson. So if Who's Who has her listed as Valerie Wilson and only mentions Plame as her maiden name, then the question arises why did Novak use the name she used when she was undercover?

If he had refered to her as Valerie Wilson, it would have been less of a exposure of her, because she never used that name on actual operations.

That would tend to indicate that Novak is lying about the source of her name, AND about knowing she was covert, as whoever told him the name Valerie Plame would have to have gotten the name from her time as a covert agent, and NOT from her CURRENT CIA employment.

12. We're witnessing the public unraveling of what was once a powerful man
It's journalistic history, folks, so watch carefully.

His appearances have already been precious few and his anger and bitterness shine like a full-on oil fire. The intimidation he's long used to do as he pleases was based on access to the mighty and pure fear; now he's disliked by virtually all. The right hates him for being a mealy-mouthed Quisling, and the left hates him for being Bob Novak.

We won't see much of him, and when we do, he'll be contrite and very guarded. With any luck, he'll get called to account and have to bluster and stammer as best he can. Chances are also reasonably good for a true petulant outburst as he lashes back at his tormentors. For a man who'd kept all deriders at bay for decades, he's ill-equipped to stand his ground without his customary advantages, and he's scared, vengeful and unscrupulous.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

(I must say, though, that he's a REAL conservative, unlike the neo-cons, and he was against the Iraq folly and said so. Having said all that, though, he was perfectly willing to betray his fiscal caution and fell in step with the looters who've plunged us into a vortex of debt so the rich can be subsidized.)

70. Well said, PurityofEssence!
I might add, please, that the Left hates him because not only is he Bob Novak, but he's a TRAITOR. The Left hates him because he endangered our national security by outing an uncover operation to track WMD in the hands of people who would use them against us.

The Left hates him because he committed TREASON with forethought and mailice, and we still see him ON THE AIR spouting his BS (figuratively and literally :P ).

I'm waiting for a National Press Conference on using harsh language in the media next (damn liberals).

A couple of years ago Novak actually put together some video excerpts of various progressive commentators(including James Carville) using words like "ass", "bitch" and "schmuck". He brought it onto a tv show and complained about how "profanities" like that were ruining discourse in America.

39. He was cracking a LONG time ago - he assaulted a pal of mine
Takebackthemedia.com filed Assault charges on Novak Jan 27th Here's Video

He's lost it again - just saw the footage on CNN and we at Takebackthemedia.com are NOT surprised. Novak has actually ATTACKED people before and then Lied about what happened to the Washington Post - We know, we were THERE when it happened, I actually caught Brad Carr, the man who was assaulted by Novak.

Watch the video here: http://web.takebackthemedia.com/geeklog/public_html/staticpages/index.php?page=20050805004552146

Here's what we posted back in January 2004 about the assault.

***********************************

A Take Back the Media SCOOP - Novak savagely attacks onlooker at New Hampshire Primaries.

From Takebackthemedia.com on January 27th, 2004 --

CNN has created massive coverage of the New Hampshire Primaries - bringing with them on their gaudy Election 2004 bus a host of their news anchors, including one Robert Novak - who is most well known for his obfuscating on CROSSFIRE.

Remember Robert Novak? He's the source of the Valerie Plame CIA outing in the media and has never been called to task for what appears to be a rather substantial breaking of Federal LAW.

As of this date, for nearly 100 days no one in this administration has wanted to touch this - for apparently someone high in the Bush administration has to have passed this information along to Novak, and whoever did that may be culpable legally as well.

It looks like there is some movement in that direction - a Grand Jury is being empaneled for this purpose. To me if looks like Novak is screwed either way. If he tells WHO gave him that information - he has no credibility - if he DOESN'T talk, he may be jailed. He may be jailed anyway - as I understand it (and I am not a lawyer) this is a CRIME.

So it would make sense that Novak is worried - perhaps to the point of losing his cool or his mind - which he did on January 27 outside of the Merrick Restaurant at about 5:15 pm. I was there, I saw it - I even caught the guy that Novak attacked.

I can't get the image out of my mind. Novak looked like a little caged animal - fist locked and *censored*ed back, he wasn't through with his victim before getting hustled off and onto the bus.

How did we get to this moment?

54. Novak is brilliant. Finally Novak has something to say that
we want to hear and he gets thrown off his own network so that he doesn't have to face tough questions. Here's an idea to punish Novak, make him stay and answer the questions. Who told you and what did they tell you?

68. On Capitol Gang he was always being confronted with the
fact that while Clinton was President he made Millions in the good economy due to Bill's leadership. Leadership that Novak criticized on a daily basis. Another Republican hypocrite.
