Venezuela signs arms deal with China
Venezuela signs arms deal with China
06/08/2005 - 9:20:04 AM

Venezuela’s defence minister has signed a deal to buy Chinese radar systems, the latest in a series of military purchases by the government of President Hugo Chavez.

The Chinese-made long range surveillance radars will be used by Venezuela’s air force, defence officials said yesterday.

Defence Minister Adm. Ramon Orlando Maniglia and Qu Huimin, the vice president of China’s Electronics Import and Export, signed the accord on Thursday, the state-run Bolivarian News Agency reported.

The deal also includes the purchase of “other air security equipment” such as radios, and the possibility of renting a satellite communications system, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. The cost of the deal was not disclosed.

3. It's been said here before, Bush is a uniter not a divider.
Pakistan,India and Iran join up for a gas pipeline. China and Russia will be holding joint military exercises this fall. China, Russia and 4 'stans' come together to request the US give up their military bases in 4 'stans'(Uzbekistan gave us 180 days notice). Iraq and Iran are on friendly and improving terms. Don't get me wrong though, the world needs more international cooperation, less unilaterism (Bush's specialty).

It will be interesting to see how Rummy reacts to the radar news, he sounded warning bells when Venezuala purchased 100,000 AK-47s.

8. That's right, we were better off with the cold war
so we need to get those enemies together!

After all, how long can we fight Islam? We need a true evil.

4. T'would appear that the thinking people in the world see through
the PNAC agenda for world domination, er I mean democracy and freedom. When in the history of the world have so few taken so many towards certain disaster.... if we cannot impeach them now, we will live through far worse than what we have just been through.

7. What is the point of buying air security equipment to fend off the U.S.
Saddam probably had one of the best ones money could buy and the U.S. went through it like a hot knife through butter. If he wants to stick it to the U.S., lots of AK-47s, lots of sniper rifles, lots of explosives. The Iraqis do just fine with them.

9. I agree.
I believe Chavez is trying all sorts of ways to defend his country. He's been signing deals with other countries, like India, definitely China. I think he met with Iran a few weeks ago. He's been very vocal about the US trying to attack Venezuela.

He's mobilizing his population too, into militias. He ordered 100,000 kalashnikov rifles a while back.

RumsFailed started sweating when that happened. He said, "I can't imagine what on earth they would need those for. Goodness Gracious".

I bet he's sweating bullets right now. (very appropriate aphorism)

Now, there's more than one way to defeat the US. As Iraq fights on in a protracted guerilla war, the US is slowly losing. We're pouring more and more money into the battle, while the world watches.

Biggest isn't necessarily best. Something tells me Chavez is watching closely.

12. The best way to defeat the US
is to bleed its imperialist army to death in a quagmire from which they are unwilling and unable to get out. The Iraqi resistance is showing just how effective an unrestrained Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, can be when opposing a conventional army of occupation.

We lost the war in Iraq! Common sense dictates that we cut our losses and get out of there ASAP. Each day we stay in Iraq will not prevent our ultimate defeat, which is inevitable. Withdrawing now will save lives.
