Saudi says ties with U.S. 'couldn't be better'

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia said on Sunday official ties with its ally the United States were now as good as they were before the Sept. 11 attacks but acknowledged some distrust among ordinary citizens of both countries.

Relations between the world's superpower and the global oil giant, whose strategic alliance dates back 60 years, were strained by the 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, which were carried out by mainly Saudi hijackers.

But Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said relations between the two governments now "couldn't be better" after the two countries worked hard to restore close links.

"The relationship has tremendously improved with the United States," he told a news conference in Riyadh.

7. they don't really like ordinary citizens
They want to herd them all into prisons and force them into slave labor.

Bushler/Cheney et al and the House of Saud both.

2. Of course, the White House is full of oil men and women.....
"The relationship has tremendously improved with the United States," he told a news conference in Riyadh.

With bush kissing and hugging Saudis left and right, how could it get better?

Now, HOW MANY of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis? :wtf: Mighty strange bedfellows bush keeps, mighty strange.

4. 17 of 19 hijackers are Saudis. Half the suicide bombers in Iraq are Saudi
.....Bushes response? Tiptoe thru the tulips, hand in hand, with the oil soaked Saudi Royals. Do the math.

6. I thought it was 15 of the 19
But no matter; isn't it instructive that the Saudi leaders are so enamored with the current administration, if it just wasn't for the pesky distrust between us ordinary citizens of each country?

I understand that Marie Antoinette conducted highly satisfactory relations with her courtiers; too bad the rabble in the streets had other ideas.

8. Yeah, 75% of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, but Bush invades Iraq
Bush hasn't "captured" favorite son Osama yet...
The price of gasoline is at an all-time high...
The Saudis were successful in getting the US military (bases) kicked out of Saudi Arabia...
Bush allows the US Secret Service to keep an eye on the Saudi embassy in DC.

Yep, I'd say things are looking up for the Saudi Royal Family!

11. GREAT response.
Notice, how Al-Faisal has to inject a little reality into his overblown statements "couldn't be better". I wonder.

Saudi Arabia is a powderkeg ready to blow. There's a lot of unrest in that country. The "royal**" family supports Wahhabism and terrorism, just to placate their population.

I've always said that our #1 and #2 enemies are: Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Take your pick.

**They're not really royals at all. Britain just picked some people to be "King" back in the days when they were occupying the ME.
