Man swaps daughter for unopposed win in polls
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/subcontinent/2005/August/subcontinent_August241.xml§ion=subcontinent

ISLAMABAD - A candidate in Pakistan’s Northwestern Frontier Province gave away his 11-year-old daughter to his opponent in exchange for latter’s withdrawal from next week’ local elections, a news report said on Sunday.

Daily Times quoted an unnamed election official as saying that Ajoon, a resident of Kohistan district, more than 120 kilometres northwest of Islamabad, made the offer considering his opponent Vilayat Noor politically stronger.

The two men were the only candidates for the post of nazim, or chief administrator.

“He wished to get elected unopposed ... that’s why he also paid him (Noor) Rs. 200,000 (about 3,358 U.S. dollars),” the official told the newspaper.

After the party, Ferro told associates that a lobbyist poured champagne on her while she was in the hot tub.

Rolling Stone:After the revelations of the past few weeks, there is no longer any doubt that Rep. Tom DeLay is the most corrupt official in Washington -- which is saying a lot, given the ethical standards of Capitol Hill. The Republican majority leader, known as "The Hammer," has broken nearly every House ethics rule on the books in recent years, enjoying lavish trips paid for by corporate lobbyists and foreign agents. DeLay stayed at the luxurious Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel in Hawaii as a guest of the American Association of Airport Executives, who picked up the $52,000 tab for eight members of Congress. He went golfing in Scotland, Russia and South Korea with family members and aides, racking up $283,000 in expenses that were covered by a host of special interests, including Enron, AT&T and the Nuclear Energy Institute. His wife, Christine, and daughter Danni Ferro have received $500,000 from his campaign for their political work on his behalf -- including a late-night party for corporate donors at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where a lobbyist poured champagne over Danni's head while she was in a hot tub on the balcony of DeLay's suite. The majority leader -- a master at covering his tracks by laundering corporate gifts through seemingly innocuous groups like the National Center for Public Policy Research -- insists that his first-class jet-setting is undertaken solely for "educational" purposes.

Getting a corrupt Congressman to help bail you out the next time your industry pisses away billions in cash and needs a Federal bailout - $52,000

Getting the same corrupt Congressman to help push legislation to help your already-proven-to-be-corrupt business get even richer while avaoiding nasty lawsuits and Federal regulatory oversight - $283,000

Having the SAME Congressman grandstanding around the country preaching how he and his party are morally superior to everyone else - while you hang out in a hot tub with his lobbyist daughter, pouring champagne over her tits -

Priceless

16. Given the appraised value of females in that backward,
repulsive social order, he probably was the envy of the neighborhood for making such a good deal. And this stupid bunch of neocon pricks thinks they could produce democracy in that place by waving a magic wand-loaded with powder and bullets. On second thought, this may rate highly in the bfee notions of a wonderful, "democrcatic" world.

9.  all you have to do is Cater to your opponents Rapist/Pedophilic desires
to win Public office... ???

We can keep them our allies by bribing them with young prepubescent children.. what a deal you can buy a 10 year old boy or girl for $35 to $50 from the Arabs in an open Slave market right on the street Darkar, Senegal. it has been there since the Americans bought their slaves in the 1700's.. they steal the children from the Moors, or have a Moor take them with promise to be a servant in a rich house where they will be Educated and taught a trade, but it seems the boys, if they are lucky end up tied to racing Camel. if not they end up raped as sex slaves like the girls.

i guess it is a Long Long "Family Tradition".

I was in the Peace Corps there in 1973.

21. Yes, this is terrible. If only she'd been an American candidate's kid...
...spending her childhood raised by nannies and aides, except for when she is wheeled out in view of the public as proof of the candidate's god-fearing procreative zeal.

Better if she were to be a US candidate's daughter, served up as fodder for late night comedians to make sleepy suburbanites titter and as a target for hack partisans to whinge about on messageboards.

Yes, here in the land of the brave and the free, she'd be so much better off with her anorexia and the alcoholism she can look forward to in her teens, and the kinds of wonderful conversations you can have with the armed killers paid to guard you.

That's not to say nothing untoward might happen here--just maybe it could!--such as, oh, who knows? Skinny dipping, say, with one's friends and the candidate himself, who just happens to be dear old...

Minn. nominee quits gov's race

Hounded by sex scandals, Republican Jon Grunseth quit the Minnesota governor's race Sunday night.

''The events of the last three weeks have put enormous pressure on (my) family and on the political process and on the people of Minnesota,'' Grunseth said from his home in Afton. ''I therefore decided to withdraw.''

His resignation nine days before the election - a move apparently without precedent in the USA in recent memory - threw the election into chaos.

Gov. Rudy Perpich of the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party remains on the ballot.

But the nominee of the Independent-Republican Party, if there will even be one, remains an intra-party mystery to be hashed out by a 4: 30 p.m. Friday filing deadline.

Grunseth's campaign went into a tailspin Oct. 15, after allegations he had invited four teen-age girls, including his adopted daughter, to swim nude with him at a 1981 party. One of the girls said he also tried to touch her breast.

He nearly resigned last Thursday, but changed his mind after a 3 1/2-hour meeting with key campaign strategists.

Then, Sunday, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune published a story in which Grunseth admitted a ''romantic'' relationship with a 32-year-old woman. The woman, Tamara Taylor of Minnetonka, said she and Grunseth had an intermittent affair from 1980 to 1989.

Grunseth, 44, was divorced in 1983 and married his present wife, Vicki, in 1984.

''I always haven't been a perfect person. I think I'm a pretty decent guy but I've made some mistakes and I feel badly about that, too,'' Grunseth said.

23. Democracy in action
:puke:

Like I said before it's all about the women.. (or girls in this case)

Women are PROPERTY...just like a car or a goat or a cow.. They are there to be USED by the men of their society.. There's NO way in HELL that real democracy will EVER be "allowed" in societies like that. The ones in charge of changing the rules are the very ones who would lose..Why would they EVER change a system they love?
