Adviser: Pirro Will Challenge Clinton

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Jeanine Pirro, the high-profile district attorney from suburban Westchester County, will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's bid for re-election next year, a top adviser said Monday....

***

Pirro has won praise for her Internet stings of would-be child molesters, her work with battered women and her battle against underage drinking. She had often been seen on national television as a commentator on high-profile crimes. In 1997, she made People magazine's ''most beautiful people'' list.

She has been a supporter of abortion rights.

Pirro was re-elected district attorney in 2001 while her husband, lawyer-lobbyist Albert Pirro, was in federal prison for tax fraud, and he has been an issue in most of her campaigns. In 1986, he refused to release information about his law practice and she had to withdraw as the GOP candidate for lieutenant governor. He is a major Republican fundraiser.

Some top Republicans, including state GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik, had been pressing for Pirro to run against Clinton on the theory that even if she lost the race, the district attorney could bloody the former first lady as she prepares for a possible run for president in 2008....

1. This should be interesting . . .
I thought the NY GOP would run 9-11 "hero" Rudy Guiliani for their slate.

2. She'll have her ass handed to her on a platter...
That is IF Democrats conduct the race as a war -- the essence of politics -- rather than nuanced debate. This from the article:

A statewide poll released last week by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute had Clinton leading Pirro, 63 percent to 29 percent.

10. Pirro will "challenge" Clinton....
...in much the same way a snowball "challenges" a blast furnace....

In fact, even if you could add Pirro's votes to those for Ed Cox (Nixon's son-in-law, who's also running against Hil), they'd STILL get their collective asses handed to them....

4. Adviser: Pirro Will Challenge Clinton
Adviser: Pirro Will Challenge Clinton

By MARC HUMBERT, Associated Press Writer

ALBANY, N.Y. - Jeanine Pirro, a high-profile prosecutor from the New York City area, said Monday she will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in her bid for re-election next year.

"I am running against Hillary Clinton because New York state deserves a senator who will give her all to the people of New York for a full term, who will not miss votes to campaign in (presidential) primaries," Pirro said in a statement.

"When Mrs. Clinton first came to us and said she wanted to be a New Yorker, she asked New York to put out a welcome mat and we did," the Westchester County district attorney added. "But now she wants us to re-elect her even though she won't promise to serve out her term and wants to use us as a springboard to the presidency. She's asking us to become her doormat. I believe we deserve better."

5. Has that "But they're going to run for president?" whine ever worked?
Anyone know of a single politician defeated because their opponent blasted them with that accusation?

6. She's not without her own baggage
"Pirro carries the baggage of husband Al Pirro's 2000 conviction on federal tax evasion charges, which included allegations he fudged the couple's joint returns to support their lavish lifestyle."

15. It got some press at the time
I'm sure the Westchester papers were buzzing with it endlessly, much more than city papers.

7. If you live here in New York, you know...
that Ms. Pirro doesn't stand a chance in hell against Hillary.

Pirro is forever tainted by her idiot of a husband, who, while not getting a BJ like Bill, nonetheless is one of the least ethical human beings in New York. And, with Al (I'm not under indictment this week) D'Amato around, that's saying something.

8. I want to see this woman, Pirro, eaten alive by Senator Clinton.
The Republicans just seem to get more pathetic by the day. An outright perversion of the truth from Pirro: "'I am running against Hillary Clinton because New York state deserves a senator who will give her all to the people of New York for a full term, who will not miss votes to campaign in (presidential) primaries,' Pirro said in a statement."

 Senator Clinton has never said she would not complete a full-term. For that matter, she has never said that she is going to run for president in 2008, nor has she even hinted at such an occurrence. Republicans are snakes if this is going to be their tactic, and we ought to call them on it and attack the sons of bitches. War is a necessary part of politics, and we need to conduct this one both strategically and tactically.

12. Agreed that repugs are pathetic; disagreed that Hillary ain't running
She's never even hinted at it? lol

She won't finish her next Senate term unless she loses in the presidential toss-up. Which seems a distinct probability to me. I hope we get a better candidate, one who's more interested in party goals than personal goals.

Peace.

9. The New Yorkers can also look at Clinton from another perspective
that if she goes on to be President...its something to be PROUD OF..

Its not like she is abandoning them as a bad Captain of a large ship does taking the only lifeboat....when its sinking...leaving passengers to fend for themselves...

The New Yorkers can rest assured Hillary Will do much better for the Nation as a President...that this is the important OVERVIEW...not the small minutiae the Pubs like to distort/distract the sheep with.

The New Yorkers essentially can sacrifice their Senator to have a Better President who cares about them?? Of Course...they can and should...its done all the time....Bush gave up his govenorship.

11. If the choice for upstate is Piro and Hillary, I would think Clinton
would carry the day up there. She has never been popular up there but Clinton has worked hard to get votes up there and Piro isn't the Republican that much different from Hillary that they would desire. Usually, that bodes well for an incumbent. And clinto would crush Piro in NYC, I would think.

18. Hillary has made a lot of progress upstate
That's one of the reasons her rating statewide is over 60 percent.

19. Is she still a DA?
Because she says it would be wrong for Hillary to promise people she'll be a senator and then run for president. Didn't this lady promise voters she'd be a DA and then run for Senator?

20. Repuke guinea pig/sacrificially lamb. They want to see what will and
won't stick to Hillary. Also a test ballon with a supporter of abortion rights to see if they can score points with moderates and test how rabid the fundies will respond. The GOP has no intention of this woman winning, it's to see what will and won't work in 2008 against Hillary or any other Dem. They probably figure the seat will go vacant when Hillary runs for prez anyway. They'll pick their real candidate then.

21. I have seen Pirro on TV and she is a total idiot
Those who like me fill their empty shallow lives with 24/7 dosages of missing blondes in Aruba, Jacko puppet theatre, and the latest sports scandal, know Jeanine Pirro from her many clashed with the other idiotic guests. Pirro is an intellectual zero, and Hillary will eat her alive, assuming the Ed Cox doesn't do Pirro in first.
