Biohazard detection equipment to make Terre Haute mail safer
This is the front-page centerpiece in Tuesday's Tribune-Star newspaper in Terre Haute, Ind. Check the packaging on the PDF -- giant bold, black ANTHRAX at the top of the front page. Fear! Booga booga!

Terre Haute will join 10 Hoosier cities with a newly developed biohazard detection system designed to detect anthrax in the mail.

The city's main post office is one of 283 mail distribution sites nationwide that will have the anthrax equipment operating by November. Terre Haute's equipment will arrive Aug. 27 and begin operating Sept. 2, said Kim Yates, U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman.

1. does it really make it "safer" or does it just let you know that it
already happened?

sounds like the latter.

I suppose it might make you FEEL better...

3. I didn't know I was supposed to be afraid when I went to the mailbox

Wow, are small cities all across the US getting these?

In Terre Haute I'd be more worried about the long term effects of the horrible smell emanating from the factory there. Ugh! My husband is from Terre Haute and that makes two reasons why I don't like to go visit his family (the other being his family).
