Iraqi official says Saddam could be executed quickly

BAGHDAD, Iraq An Iraqi official says Saddam Hussein could be executed if he's convicted and sentenced to death in the first of several trials against him -- even if other charges are still pending.

The official, who prefers not to be identified, says "theoretically" the former dictator could be executed before he can be tried on the rest of the charges.

Iraqi officials have not set a trial date for the first case, which involves Saddam's alleged role in the 1982 massacre of an estimated 150 Shiites north of Baghdad. But the official says that trial is expected to begin this fall.

1. Early execution.
This might be good for some Bush Admin officials. Let's not waste time on a defense where it will turn out that neo-cons played a part in his presidency and running of Iraq.

3. Faster than a speeding Rumsfeldt.
Faster than a Bush Family Evil Empire. We all knew he'd never get a chance to tell the truth about where he got his weapons, etc. No surprise here.

7. They'll kill him before he can write a book.
Telling all and exposing the BFEE. They'll limit what is allowed into trial so that nobody ever hears the rest of the story.

Kill a head of state that got his weapons to do what we are putting him on trial for from us. Are we not an accomplice. Before and after the fact?

11. The longer they take to get around to doing it, the better for the world.
Then we can get all the details - like all of his dealings with our government, and how they looked the other way when he committed his worst atrocities with their help!

15. So many secrets to tell
I'm sure Saddam has a wealth of secrets he is eagerly waiting to share on live Iraqi TV. Mind you, its not just the Americans who should be worried; the French and Russian governments were very cozy with Saddam in the 1990s and up to the Iraq war.

The French did bomb a Greenpeace boat after all - why not assassinate an out-of-work fascist dictator?

16. So they are going to execute a former head of state in Iraq?.....
...well, maybe Bush should be sent there, instead of the Hague, to be put on trial for his war crimes...

19. Any chance of applying this kind of justice to our dictator?
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:18 PM by FlemingsGhost
I hear some "Texans" simply adore executions. It'll be one hell of a homecoming. The man-child will plead for his life, and we'll laugh.

What comes around ...
