Ground Zero Museums Hit Planning Snags
Ground Zero Museums Hit Planning Snags

By AMY WESTFELDT

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) - One of two proposed museums at the World Trade Center site that came under criticism from victims' families is looking to move elsewhere and another devoted to freedom must satisfy redevelopment officials with more detailed plans, a rebuilding official said Thursday.

In an apparent concession to people who say the plans could disrespect the 9/11 dead and America, John Whitehead gave the International Freedom Center until Sept. 23 to work with family members and produce specific plans for its museum.

If the plans do not satisfy the redevelopment agency, ``we will find another use or tenant consistent with our objectives for that space,'' said Whitehead, chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the agency charged with rebuilding the site.

Meanwhile, the Drawing Center, a SoHo gallery that was selected to move to the center site, is looking for another location. Whitehead said the museum's board was ``finding it difficult to comply with the requirements'' and would look elsewhere in downtown.

1. Typical new york stuff
I get the sense they will never get around to building anything at ground zero. Ever.
