Panel Questions Air National Guard Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) - A skeptical base-closing commission questioned
whether the Defense Department's plan to reorganize the Air National
Guard would mean new risks for homeland security Thursday as the
Pentagon and state officials squared off over the proposal.

The proposed shake-up of dozens of Air Guard units has emerged as the
most contentious part of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's
proposal to close, shrink or expand hundreds of military bases and
other installations nationwide.

As a result, the nine-member commission reviewing the proposal gave
the Pentagon and states one last chance to argue their cases about
the Air Guard before the panel sends a final report - with changes if
necessary - to President Bush next month.

Defense officials tried to reassure the commission.

Commissioners appeared unconvinced.

1. Civil War in the Oligarchy? Including Pentagon, CIA and FBI with the Fitz
indictments due soon and the other 2 Grand Juries investigating Bushco crimes including stealing the presidency in 2000 and the Congress reopening inquiry into 911?

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2005/aug2005/mart-a09.shtml

The reality is that the military brass is intensely interested in monitoring political dissent because its domestic operations will be directed not against a relative handful of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists—who have not carried out a single operation inside the United States since September 11, 2001—but against the
democratic rights of the American people.

The plans of Northcom have their origins not in the terrible events of 9/11, but in longstanding concerns in corporate America about the political stability of the United States. This is a society increasingly polarized between the fabulously wealthy elite at the top, and the vast majority of working people who face an increasingly difficult struggle to survive. The nightmare of the American ruling
class is the emergence of a mass movement from below that challenges its political and economic domination.

-- The Army, in a rare disciplinary act against a four-star officer, said Tuesday it relieved Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes of his command after a Pentagon investigation into unspecified "personal conduct."

Byrnes, a native of New York City, was relieved as commander of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command on Monday by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker, according to a brief statement issued by Army headquarters at the Pentagon. The spokesman said it was an Army policy not to release information about specific allegations in an investigation of an Army officer.

In April the Pentagon announced that Lt. Gen. William Wallace had been nominated for four-star rank and assignment as commander of Training and Doctrine Command, to succeed Byrnes, but he has not yet been confirmed by the Senate. There was no public indication at the time that Byrnes was under investigation.

At Rummy's Bizarro Pentagon, Torture is Rewarded While Sex is a Firing

Offense"Here’s all the proof you need that the lunatics have taken over the Pentagon and

DoD asylums (that is, if the lunacy of their Iraq policies hadn’t already convinced you): Four-star General Kevin Byrnes, the third most senior of the Army’s 11 four-star generals, was sacked over allegations that he had an extramarital affair."

"Meanwhile, Lt. General Ricardo Sanchez, the senior commander in Iraq during the Abu Ghraib torture and abuse scandal, is being considered for promotion to, yep, four-star general. Something here doesn’t add up. Would the Army really can
a four-star General with 36 years of service, three months shy of his retirement, because he screwed someone other than his wife… in the middle of a war?"

Byrnes was also leading a coup....I bet the more who are fired, the more who come out blow the whistle and begin the coup.

3. Before we get too carried away in our anti-military fervor
The Air National Guard is the air arm of the states' militia.

One key task they perform is "disaster response" - if you live in Hurricane Alley, Tornado Alley, the earthquake Zone, the Flood Plain, or in Blizzard Country -- you know exactly what I mean. And if you - you won;t believe me anyway.

I am an volunteer and a Ham Radio Emergency Volunteer, and I work with the volunteers in volunteers. Us volunteers are getting old - and you youngsters are coming along to replace us. We do need the Guard and Air Guard disaster readiness and response capability.
