Lawyer tips more delays for Hicks
One of the Australian lawyers working for Australian Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks says there are likely to be further delays before he is brought to trial.
The US military commissions have been delayed while the US Supreme Court decides whether to hear an appeal by a Yemeni detainee against the legitimacy of the trial process.

Lawyer David Mcleod says the move is likely to have ramifications for David Hicks."The issue will be whether the commissions remain stayed whilst the Hamdan case goes to appeal," he said. "The likelihood is that they will and this is of course of further concern to David who's been sitting there for 43 months now in detention without trial."

But Mr Mcleod says public opinion in Australia is starting to turn in favour of his client. He says many Australians find the situation unacceptable and are beginning to place pressure on the Federal Government. "Politicians that represent us as a government, represent the people, and when they stop listening to the people they start to make mistakes," he said.

"At this stage there is a tide of public opinion that is changing and turning and I think you'll find the Prime Minister, as astute as he is, will start to listen."
