Ontario's schools moving towards privatization: teachers' federation
TORONTO (CP) - Ontario students may soon be reading books bought by Wal-Mart, computers provided by Bell, and taking field trips subsidized by stiff differential fees applied to foreign students, warns an Ontario teachers union.

A report by the federation found that 12 per cent of Ontario's elementary schools and 28 per cent of secondary schools provide services or programs through corporate funds. For example, Wal-Mart may fund a reading program, or Coca-Cola may buy athletics equipment.

"Large corporations certainly want major access to kids; it's their way to brand," Noble said.

"And if you can get kids early, then they become Nike fans for life."
