Fake News Abounds, but Vigilance on the Rise! (gee, ya think!)
On front on Yahoo right now.. rate it up.. Its the media! and WE are the vigilant ones!!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050811/ap_en_tv/making_things_up

"The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, which conducts regular polling on attitudes toward the media, said that in 1985 about 84 percent of Americans said they believed most of what they read in their daily newspaper. By 2004, that had dropped to 54 percent.

What isn't clear is whether fabrications have become more common, or just easier to uncover.

These days, an army of amateur and professional media critics have made a hobby out of attempting to discredit news reports and statements by politicians.

Their work has been aided by powerful Internet tools that have made it easier than ever to detect stolen or false material, confirm identities or troll public records."

trolls... ya think.. LOL

1. I thought the media was 100% lies in 1991...
And in accordance with such, I've been boycotting the MSM ever since.

3. are they getting smarter?

Maybe some of them will learn the meaning of the phrase "internal consistency". Maybe they'll learn to spot incongruities while they're at it.

7. If it was your job to spread dis-information.........
Sorry for the tin foil folks

but please think about it, the methods, the tactics, the ones who benifit from it. As long as I have been coming to this site (about 4 years now) I have seen it time and time again. The dis-information being spread around this country is an "Organised" effort, and I don't think just a few over zealous Freepers.

Does it have a purpose - ask any Military Commander

8. I think it's the "liberal media" meme
I'd bet that most of the people who went from believing to not believing are not progressives like us, but rather conservatives who bought the "liberal media" line and now assume everything in the news is biased in favor of the left.

9. That's the real problem.
Millions of people believe corporate propaganda. They dwell on every word Limbaugh utters and take it as the gospel truth. Limbaugh and their ilk tell people that "you are morally superior and all these problems are somebody else's fault." They blame everything on liberals just like the Nazis blamed everything on Jews. Our biggest problem is the large segment of our society that is willing to goose step along without questioning their sources of information.

I am wondering if we are beyond redemption when I see them worship a cretin like Bush but vilify a true man and true leader like Kerry. The propaganda has convinced them that war heroes are "anti-American."

They have been consditoned to believe that any news source that does not simply spout right-wing talking points is the "liberal media."

I hope that Bush worshippers have the moral courage to admit a mistake when things keep getting worse. But I fear they will swirl right down the toilet with him and drag the rest of the country with them.
