Iraq Bomb Kills U.S. Soldier; Helicopter Comes Down (Update1)
Aug. 12 (Bloomberg) -- One U.S. soldier was killed when a homemade bomb exploded near their combat patrol near the city of Tikrit, north of Baghdad, and two others were hurt when their helicopter came down near Kirkuk, the military said.

The explosion took place at about 4 a.m. today, the military said in an e-mailed statement, without providing further details.

The soldiers who were injured when their Apache helicopter came down today have been evacuated from the area, and the site has been secured, Staff Sergeant Don Dees said in a telephone interview from Baghdad.

``There's no indication as to why the helicopter came down,'' Dees said. ``What we know is there's an Apache on the ground.'' No further information was available.

Updated: 2005-08-12 16:01

A U.S. Apache helicopter crashed Friday in northern Iraq, injuring two U.S. troops, the military said, reported AP.

U.S. forces were evacuating the two injured servicemembers in the area of Kirkuk, 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Baghdad, said Staff Sgt. Duane Brown, a spokesman for the 42nd Infantry Division. He did not disclose the extent of the injuries.

12. How about negative ascent?
"Two soldiers had their health negatively improved during a negative helicopter ascent today."

I suppose that's too negative, though.

Just another casualty of the "fog of war".

9. Helicopters "come down" when they land and the people get off. When they
the people can't get off because they are dead or wounded, the helicopter didn't "come down" it CRASHED.
