Mother of fallen soldier protesting in Iraq launches ad campaign
RAW STORY

The increasingly saavy media operation surrounding Cindy Sheehan, who is protesting outside President George W. Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch has stepped up their campaign, running a sixty minute ad on cable channels in the area, RAW STORY has learned.

The ad, paid for by Gold Star Families for Peace, will air on Crawford cable channels near Bush’s ranch. The total ad buy is currently $15,000. The group plans to air the ad throughout August and wherever Bush visits during his vacation.

....

"He was only 24 and he died in his best friend’s arms," Sheehan says in the ad, directed at President Bush. "Casey was so good and so honest why can’t you be honest with us?"

"You were wrong about the weapons of mass destruction-you were wrong about the link between Iraq and Al Queda—you lied to us and because of your lies my son died," she ads.

10. No, but I bet the controversy of it's existence will lead every
cable "news" channel to "analyze" it.

6. Uh Oh
Turning this into a slick media event will kill it. It has power now because it is simple, honest and direct.

I hope this type of thing doesnt go too far.

7. Let's start a list of things that will kill it
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 11:08 AM by Roy
ang get it over with.

if people come to Crawford and show support for Cindy, that will kill it. now if she spreads her message via ads, since the media won't cover it properly, that will kill it.

It seems like some folks think that the only thing that won't kill it, is to sit down and shut up.

just start a list of things that will kill it, that way the panic about what others think won't be spread so thin. SHEEESH

14. This is the only way to reach 80% of Americans. Let see the person
that O'Liely has been smearing.

I have heard so much misinformation about her the last few days. Let her speak for herself.

9. Hmmm.... Title of story and thread are confusing
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 11:27 AM by Stand and Fight
The title of this thread and the title of the story are confusing. It reads as if she is a mother the mother of a fallen soldier who is protesting in Iraq. The "protesting in Iraq" part should be removed. It would make a lot more since as "Mother of Fallen Soldier Launches Ad Campaign."

And that should be 60 SECONDS, not minutes.

Just my two cents. Otherwise, good stuff.

13. someone finally calling a liar a liar........
My hope is that no one will be able to talk some sense into the idiot, this will allow Ms. Sheehan to follow the idiot him to Washington.

In Washington there will be room for this movement to grow exponentially, if she gets this sort of response in a ditch only a couple of feet wide, think of what this will look like in DC.

I see more people and more families of killed and wounded coming to join her cause. Remember, returning vets themselves are forming and looking for a voice.
Ms Sheehan, in her grief and love for her son may have provided just the platform for many who are silenced by being ignored by MSM and shouted down and talked over by the likes of Bill O'Reilley and his ilk.

Just because she seems alone in wanting answers, don't believe that there aren't scores of others wanting answers as well.

18. Bush is such a fucking weenie
If he had any class at all, any semblance of leadership ability, he could meet with her and 'smooth it over'.....not that that is actually possible, but a real leader could deal with her. Bush* can't. He's a weenie.

He's just a stupid, rich kid bully, prick of a jerk.

19.  The increasingly saavy media operation ??
Why does RawStory have to be snarky in that way?

Why is it noteworthy that someone on OUR side is "media savvy"? Is there something wrong with that, or is it a good thing (doesn't sound like RAW STORY thinks it's a good thing)? Why does RAW STORY have to play into the hands of the Rush Limbaugh's of the world, who criticize her because she is "being used by the left."

Shame on you, RAW STORY. I have been thinking increasingly well of you, but this kind of comment is beneath you IMO.

21. I thought the same thing when I read this article, Eloriel...
it has such a negative tone, I wonder what they were aiming at? Why is it such a bad thing to become 'media savvy', and surround yourself with people who can help you get your message out?

Other than that, I thought the ad itself was great! I hope it gets picked up nationally, and played over and over and over!!

20. Wow. Just Wow.
If you haven't watched the ad, go watch it. She communicates very effectively, and she is so, well, maternal. Very hard to paint this person as some psycho, anti-american supporter of terrorists.

How much money would we have to raise to get this ad nationwide in prime time?
