Iraqis say 15 dead after military shooting -- but U.S. denies
http://www.swissinfo.org/sen/swissinfo.html?siteSect=143&sid=6006226&cKey=1123928416000

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - An attack on a U.S. military patrol followed by U.S. gunfire left 15 Iraqis dead and 17 wounded in a town west of Baghdad, residents said on Saturday, but the U.S. military said it was not responsible.

Residents of Nasaf, a town just outside the city of Ramadi, said a roadside bomb exploded next to a U.S. armoured patrol as it passed near the Ibn al-Jawzi mosque shortly after prayers on Friday.

They said U.S. troops opened fire immediately after the explosion, shooting towards people emerging from the mosque.

Munem Aftan, the director of Ramadi General Hospital, said 15 people were killed, including eight children, and 17 wounded.

Pools of blood lay on the steps outside the mosque, and bullet holes marked its walls.

But the U.S. military said its troops had not been involved in any firing in the area.

1. Will we ever be told the truth about anything....
with this administration. What is wrong with telling the simple truth. Why would the Iraqi witnesses lie about what happened.

3. The message I have heard from bush is....
I mean what I say and I do what I say I will. So I guess that boils down to, he means to tell lies and acts on those lies.

4. The photos of those children are just unbearable.....

An Iraqi boy receives treatment for head wounds he received in an explosion at a mosque, Friday Aug. 12, 2005, in Al-Nasaf, 25 kms. (15 miles) east of Ramadi, central Iraq. Locals claim that during Friday prayers an artillery shell was fired into the Ibn Al-Jawzi Mosque killing 4 and injuring at least 19, of which 3 dead were children. Iraqis blamed U.S. forces, but an American military spokesman disputed the Iraqi account. (AP Photo/Bilal Hussein)

It really does not matter who is telling the truth here. As long as the US is occuping Iraq they will be blamed for the violence.

8. It looks like the little boy had already lost an arm.
I'm so disgusted at the people who are pro war don't give a shit about the people of Iraq at all. And I believe it's racist. They don't give a damn about brown kids hurting and dying.

5. This has happened several times, so this report is quite believable
No fire discipline. Troops just open fire in all directions. Most recently, credible reports had the US killing survivors of a suicide bombing. The Pentagon, of course, denied.

7. This kind of thing happens all the time...
Just review the civilian casualty reports at icasualties.org or iraqbodycount.net--read the press accounts on which they're based.

You get a not very flattering picture of US soldiers scared shitless and firing at anything that moves, laying down fire in a 360 degree circle. Time after time.

I wonder how many recruits for the insurgency we create that way.

We should never have invaded. We should GET OUT NOW!

10. I suspect that
iraqbodycount.net doesn't get 1/4 of everything that happens.
