Lawmakers grow restless over Iraq
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/236441_delegation13.html

U.S. mission there not clear, some from state stay

<snip>Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash., wants American troops withdrawn as soon as possible. He suggests that the presence ofU.S. troops might actually increase violence because they are seen as an occupying force rather than liberators.

"Public opinion has shifted dramatically," Inslee said. "Americans have common sense enough to know there have been multiple failures and they see no new enlightened strategy." snip

McDermott predicts that if Iraq continues to remain unstable and dangerous, even Republicans and loyalists within the administration will push for change. Some have already broken ranks. In June, Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., sponsored a resolution demanding that the United States begin bringing troops home no later than Oct. 1, 2006.

"Somebody will tell the president, 'Sir, you are Lyndon Johnson. If you want that to be your legacy, keep going,' " McDermott said, referring to the former president who's presidency and political career were doomed by the Vietnam War.

5. Bush* is not now nor ever will be an LBJ
He could not make a pimple on LBJ's butt. LBJ messed up "Big time" in vietnam but he accomplished so much with his "Great Society" that I feel he almost redeemed himself. He also would not run for a second term because he knew he had screwed up so badly about Vietnam. He listened to the wrong people. Probably the same people who "offed" JFK and RFK. Bush* is related to some of those people.

7. Inslee is a Democrat who gets it.
The putative 2008 candidate, however, does not.

Either the DLC Dems wake up, or they're getting no more of my votes.

8. One small correction, Rep. Inslee. Not withdraw "as soon as possible"...
withdraw NOW. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not next year. Not when some nebulous entitity (like Chalabi) decides the Iraqi security people can handle it alone. Not when the Pencil-Dick-in-Chief decides he's established his credentials as a real MANLY-MAN.

TODAY. Enough is enough.
