London business confidence at lowest level since Iraq war

LONDON - A survey of London businesses found on Monday that last month's deadly terrorist attacks pushed confidence in the economy to its lowest point since the start of the Iraq war.

A retail industry group also reinforced earlier reports of a big drop in shop sales in London as businesses continue to count the costs of the two sets of attacks on the city's transport network.

A study for Lloyds TSB Financial Markets, carried out a week after the July 7 attacks by four suicide bombers who killed 52 commuters, found that faith in Britain's economic future fell to its lowest point since March 2003.

1. That's because London is now a war zone.

And War Zones and tourism don't mix. This is one of the worst things about war zones - tourists and their money flee. They will not stay around volatile areas. They found that out in Northern Ireland, and they lost millions in tourist revenue.

It's one of the best ways for countries to earn money, by the way. It hopefully preserves the environment, and gives the population benevolent work, unlike working in coal mines or odious conditions.

Blair got his war - he was geared up for it. But he did not count on the backlash. I'm sure businesses are hounding him day and night about the lost earnings. He'll cave to THEM before he caves to the general population.
