Canada's CBC locks out employees
Canadian public broadcaster CBC has locked out 5,500 workers after
failing to reach an agreement with their union.

Employees have been without contracts for more than a year, and CBC is
also planning to recruit new staff on a contract basis rather than
full-time.

The broadcaster says it will rely on the 10% of its employees who are
not union members to maintain programming.

Local radio morning shows will be replaced by a single national show and
TV news bulletins will be scaled down.

The lockout took place just after midnight on Monday after last-minute
talks broke down.

1. I think it was foolish of the Union Members to let it go this far
.
.
.

Many industries have to cut back as a result of the changing economy, and these 5300 employees have put themselves in a precarious position

CBC is a very visible employer, and I am confident that they did not initiate this lock-out without serious thought and misgivings

2. Me too, BUT....

...the morning show in Saskatchewan is so thoroughly infested with neo-cons and radio "personalities", that I won't even miss them!

3. What's going on in Canada with regards to jobs?
I'm trying to get up there, even have resumes out to traditional and satellite broadcasters - is the market not as open and jobs not as plentiful as some have led me to believe?

This makes me wonder if it's even harder to get a broadcasting job in Canada than I previously thought!
