Army Names New Recruiting Head
snip>
Maj. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick will take command of recruiting operations Oct. 12, Douglas Smith, a spokesman for the Army recruiting headquarters at Fort Knox, Ky., said Tuesday.

Bostick commanded the Army Corps of Engineers' Gulf Region Division in Iraq from June 2004 to June 2005.

Army recruiting has languished since the start of the Iraq war. The command missed its recruiting goals for active duty soldiers from February through May 2005, Smith said. It also has missed its Army Reserves recruiting goals for every month of the calendar year except June.

After that poor showing, Smith said, the Army will probably miss its goals of 80,000 active duty troops and 22,175 reservists by Sept. 30.

"Things aren't looking good for the remainder of the year," Smith said.

2. Jeez, I can't imagine why....

People are getting wise to the idea that they will become cannon fodder? The lessons of the Vietnam era weigh heavily. As they should.

I've lived through it before...and hate living through it again.

4. All he has to do is post bilingual recruiters at the US/Mexican
border and offer all of incoming field hands, cooks, yardworkers, housecleaners etc. posthumous citizenship if they sign up. Tidy solution to all sorts of problems, both foreign and domestic.

Plus, that will give Lou Dobbs something else to talk about. Do you think he'd mind "outsourcing" the war and taking care of illegal immigration in one fell swoop?

8. True...but I've seen more than one medal and US citizenship
awarded posthumously...these guys are cannon fodder - this is not a "career" thing for them. It's like some wacko Charlie and the Chocolate factory...where they get a golden ticket, and the elevator goes right through the roof and lands them in an under-armored Hummer in Iraq while it gets ready to drive over an IED

Sigh...
