Nationwide vigils planned in support of Texas protest

CRAWFORD, Texas Supporters of the Vacaville woman leading a protest near President Bush's Texas ranch are expected to turn out at vigils across the country this evening.

Organizers say over one-thousand vigils are planned to support Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son in Iraq and is protesting the war. The effort is organized by advocacy groups MoveOn-dot-org, TrueMajority and Democracy for America.

Sheehan wants the president to meet with her and other families who've lost relatives in Iraq before he ends his ranch visit at the end of the month.

She says her goal is to get American soldiers out of Iraq and transform the U-S into a country that is at peace.

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, camped out near U.S. President George W. Bush's ranch, said she is amazed at the growing support for her campaign to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq with hundreds of vigils planned across the country on Wednesday.
