Five US soldiers killed in Iraq (1858)
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 07:08 AM by leftchick
BAGHDAD - Five US soldiers were killed across Iraq in a series of incidents this week, the US military said Wednesday.

The latest deaths bring the total US military deaths to some 1,851 since the March 2003 invasion, according to Pentagon figures as of August 16.

This month has been one of the bloodiest for American forces in Iraq.

Three soldiers died on Monday when their vehicle overturned into a sinkhole in southern Baghdad during combat operations.

One soldier was killed when his patrol was hit by a roadside bomb in southwest Baghdad on Tuesday, while another was killed Monday in an insurgent attack in the northern city of Mosul.

3. Bush was stupid for saying that.

I think it makes him look really insensitive and unaware of how to even feign concern.

12. That's true.
August has been a really bad month for the troops. The deaths seem to be escalating. This is exactly what happened in Viet Nam, but on a smaller scale (for the time being).

But there are more similarities than there are disparities.

Amazing, isn't it? Vietnam was about 30 years ago. That's about 1 generation. Do we really need war more often, so people learn?

4. Five more funerals Bush can and will ignore
He has not been to one soldier's funeral yet. And he has turned his back on the mothers of fallen soldiers -- so he can go on with his vacation at the Imperial Pig Farm Upon Crawford.

This is the "leader" of our nation? Totally pathetic.

9. Right-wing reaction - "They volunteered - let 'em die!"
58,000 KIA in eight years in Vietnam. We're trying to stop a repeat.

10. I heard that yesterday from someone I thought was more informed
It made me come to an abrupt stop. Actually it was about Casey Sheehan "The only thing I have against her (Cindy) is that he (Casey) volunteered". Today the discussion may proceed on. So he volunteered, does that mean it is ok for Mr.bush to send our country to war based on lies?

11. Oddly enough
The volunteer rate was higher for Vietnam than it was for World War II. I'll check around on the internets for a citation, but I think it is accurate.

So now we've lost another 60 while Bush gets on with his vacation. Lovely.
