Four U.S. troops killed by roadside bomb - military
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L18727978.htm

BAGHDAD, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Four U.S. troops were killed in a roadside bomb blast north of Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S. military said in a statement.

The soldiers, from a unit based in Tikrit, were killed in the town of Samarra, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, the statement said. No further details were provided.

More than 60 U.S. troops have died in Iraq this month, including 14 killed by a powerful roadside bomb that hit an armoured Marine transport vehicle near Haditha, west of Baghdad.

Since the start of the war in March 2003, more than 1,850 U.S. troops have died in Iraq.

One of these days if somebody says the wrong thing to me about this war and I'm in a bad mood...

well then I pity that person who will feel my wrath.

11. This never ends....how can the Bush administration keep spinning....
...this as stay the course? Do the math:

4 killed by roadside bomb X 365 days = 1,460 more U.S. troops killed by the time Bush says Iraq will be able to defend itself.

:wtf:

23. Yes, I agree :-)
It seems like CNN has morphed into the covert mouthpiece for the Bush Administration. FOX has always been an overt cheerleader for everything our "dear leader" and his puppeteers deem appropriate. DRUDGE is Rove's personal Web Media Whore Number One "breaking Bush-Co News" site ... and poor ole' MSNBC receives the scraps but is ultra-cautious not to step on the Corporate Right Wing robber barons. :scared:

Welcome to 1984 where news-speak is in full tilt. No wonder I'm enjoying the hell out of the weather channel and reruns of Bonanza. LOL <my lame attempt at a joke>

14. Notice we're losing soldiers 4 or 6 or 8 at a time...
I think the insurgents have this roadside bomb thing figured out pretty well.

Unless our soldiers grow wings and fly, they are going to face death every time the leave base.

16. Seems like it was just a couple weeks ago we crossed 1700
and that was a horrifying barrier at the time. Now they are dying faster than ever. Last throes. Losing steam. Sure.

19. Tragic.
Every time this happens, it lends more credibility to Cindy Sheehan, and makes Bush look more like a fool. I'd like to see him continue with his lying. I bet Americans will tolerate it for about 2 more weeks, and then......
--------------------------

On a better note, I just read an article in the Oregonian about a Portland company which has figured out how to detect bombs. Apparently the Pentagon has put in a "rush" order, and this company will be shipping these devices over there soon.

I believe they will be able to detect bombs from about 1,000 feet away. The problem is, it's all new technology, and it obviously hasn't been tested very much because the Pentagon is in such a hurry.

So once again - our troops have to be the guinea pigs.
