Mehlman: Democratic Party only offers fear

WHEELING - Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman told Republicans in Wheeling Wednesday that today's Democratic Party "isn't your grandfather's Democratic Party" of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the 1940s.

Democrats "used to tell people you have nothing to fear but fear itself," Mehlman said. "Now they have nothing to offer but fear itself."
Mehlman was the featured speaker at the Ohio County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner at Oglebay Park's Wilson Lodge.

His presence in West Virginia was thought by most political insiders to indicate the importance the RNC places on the state as the 2006 and 2008 elections near. Of special interest to Republicans is the race involving the re-election of long-time U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va. To defeat Byrd, state Republicans know money is needed. The most recent campaign finance reports show the West Virginia Republican Party is $202,000 in debt following last year's gubernatorial elections.

90. KEN MEHLMAN ON HARDBALL TONIGHT
My poor little dog!!! I was in the kitchen tonight fixing my dogs supper, while listening to this idiot puppet telling the same old lies!!! Now understand, I live alone with no one to talk to but my dog (usually), but right in the middle of everything, I blew, and started swearing and yelling at the TV set. Boy I was on a rant, and I don't ususally use profanity, but sometimes there's just not any other words strong enough!! Well my poor dog thought I was yelling at him, and didn't know what the heck was going on. First he went in and barked at the TV like it was trying to harm me, then he came back in the kitchen, sat there with his head "cocked" (he's a Bichon Frise) lot's of personality. He looked at me very puzzled like "WHAT THE HELL DID I DO?" Then took off into his crate, and I had to coax him out to eat once I finally stopped "venting"!!! It was too funny after the fact tho'. I wish Chris Matthews had been there instead of Nora O'Donnell. Sometimes Chris is good, sometimes, not so good. I think he would have been tougher with him tho! I'm just sick of the whole bunch of 'em !!:grr:>me :wow: < the dog!!

is their only tactic. Always take what they do, their "terra, terra terra," their own crookedness and lies and then reflect it on their oponents ascribing their evilness to anyone who opposes them.

It's not working but they keep doing it to bolster their base because it's all they have left with the Poll numbers tanking so badly that they are in danger of even their base losing "faith," in their policies.

Sheesh...same old crap...

They terrified America with stories of mushroom clouds and now they say Dems are fear mongers. They accuse us of what they do. That way when we truthfully say they are fear mongers, the charge doesn't stick.

Example: they accused Gore of trying to steal the 2000 election! Try getting your head around that!

here:

Bushbots in 2004 said that "Kerry will SAY ANYTHING to get elected" here:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6267559/

(you got to follow the above link -- you will get a kick out of the whole sordid thing - Kerry: repugs want to privatize social security, bushbots "Kerry will say anything")

75. Allot of posts on this board are pretty negative
Nobody posts anything about good things that happen in Iraq or good things that religious people are doing. It's all just doom and gloom.
I don't agree with the war in Iraq either but that doesn't mean that the good things should be ignored. And I hate Bush too, but people on this board give him too much credit.People have been murdering each other since the dawn of time. It's not Bush's fault every time someone kills or
beats someone else up. Maybe if their wasn't such negative talk all the time he wouldn't have any examples. But I'm sure he wouldn't have any
trouble finding something to accuse you all of spreading hate(probably not fear). Terrorism is very real so there is nothing wrong with warning the public to be on guard. Bush already made the mistake of ignoring terrorists' threats and look what happened. And before I get accused of being a Troll, I hang in the center,so I am more open minded when it comes to these things.

78. Like it or not, 'doom and gloom' is the reality in Iraq.
Everything we are bitching about is actually happening. We have hard evidence for the thousands of civilians per month being killed.

Being the 'party that offers only fear' would mean that we are saying these things in order to make people afraid of something harming them. That's the complete opposite of what we are doing. We talk about the destruction over there to inform people in the hopes that they will become sympathetic. We are talking about how the USA is harming OTHERS.

I would think that the phrase 'We fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here' is the PERFECT example of the neocons spreading a message of fear. Fear of being attacked ourselves.

This is a common trait with the neocons, folks. Attack the Dems for the ideology shift that really is their own.

> today's Democratic Party "isn't your grandfather's Democratic Party" of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the 1940s.

What is the truth?
That the Republican party isn't your grandfather's Republican party, but have been taken over by extremists ;-)

The Dems are still living in the world of pre-911, and have had a coherent political development since WWII - in accordance with what the rest of the world would consider 'normal'.

If anything negative could be said about the Democrat party, it is that it has gone to far to the right during the 80's/90's, seen from a post-911 perspective.

But then this is a political drift they share with most of the European parties on the 'left'.

But now things are different, no?

65. Goebbels, head of nazi PR, once said
that the bigger a lie the easier it is believed. Social psychology later confirmed this paradox. There is no bigger lie than the inversion of the truth. It's easy to implement because it's a mere inversion that doesn't require complex processing (which makes it perfectly fit for the Idiot). It effectively thwart debate, since debate proceeds in the middle zone. The only way to avoid it comes from the conscience and moral strength of the emitter him/herself. Once practical truth (e.g. rigorous accountability) is not an option, it is therefore an undefeatable tool.

b. The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or desires to someone or something as a naive or unconscious defense against anxiety or guilt.

Umm...ok.

You would think a party that has been in control for five years would have a bit more to speak of on there side than calling the "other guy" a fear-mongerer...Tell the folks about all the great things your party has done for the economy..oh wait...what about that Bin Laden guy...ummm...Well there is always the war..oh no wait.

Fear will only get you so far in the real world...There comes a time when people stop being afraid.

to wage war and defecit spend our country into bankruptcy! The fear and war mongering by the GOP is ripping our country apart. The GOP accuses the Dems what they themselves are doing.

Anyone running for elections needs to remind the voters of the lies, and the lack of responsibility and accountability this administration and their supporters in Congress have allowed.

Every single campaign has republicans talking about terrorists and same-sex marriage, and the collapse of western civilization, and the invasion of America by illegal immigrants stealing the white man's jobs (!), and environmentalism gone too far and people who want to take away your god given right to carry a gun into a theme park or the grocery store and people who are too old to get hired and too young to collect social security trying to get cheaper medicine from Canada.

These people are absolutely black hearted profound evil, and we are going to stop them. There is no choice but to win this battle and take America back from these fascists, and we aren't going to succeed at it by playing nice.

The only thing the Republicans have to fear is the truth.

Mehlman reminds me of a five year old. His party is one of words. Empty, but very very well thought out words. Word tactics.

I've been thinking a lot about this. Here's an example- If you care about the planet, you're an environmentalist. There's no antonym, and it's an extreme. So you can't rebut it with it's opposite, and you can't do any worse. And they instigate it, so you either leave it, or respond. Very tricky little bit of trivial behavior that can have consequences, when you have the media under your conrol. Five year old behavior turns into world war.

Republicans are children with matches. And they're burning down our house.

52. If there's ANY fear in the Democratic Party,
it's the fear of the G.O.P. at the helm in D.C. and what they have done,
and what they are capable of.

Todays Republican Party is not anyone's grandfather's Republican Party!

Today's Republican Party is Imperialist Totalitarian Fascisism. They say they believe in freedom,
but instead it's power, control, and oppression. They shove Religion down people's throats,
and yet hypocritically use it for their own selfish gain.

The Republican Party today is not about Freedom.

Ken Mehlman acts like he doesn't know very much about History.:dunce:

57. I'm sorry, WHO is the party of "Fight them THERE or fight them HERE"?
I sure don't believe I ever heard Howard Dean say that.
Numerous ReTHUGlicans and ReTHUGlican shills in the so-called "Liberal" Media, sure, but I've never heard a Democrat (other than "Bought" Bayh or LIEbermann) invoking the Boogerman...

Fitz liked him the way Sippowitch likes a perp?
Maybe Fitz is starting to 'like' Mehlman for something and the lad is projecting his fear.

Now that's a shame ...

Ken - you really are knee deep in shit - call it rose petals if you want but the only blossom I see is Turd.

70. Fear? FEAR? FEAR???
Fear is the currency, the stock in trade, the oxygen, the LIFEBLOOD of the GOP, especially under this psychotic crew.

They've successfully managed to scare the bejeebers out of 100% of the American people. 50% are afraid of of Liberals, Democrats and foreign terrorists, IN THAT ORDER. The other 50% are simply afraid of what these assholes will do next.

Fear? Y'all don't know nuthin' about Fear. The GOP OWNS fear.

Can you say "gall" and "projection".

And there are some here who argue that the democrats who initially supported this war cannot now oppose it.

Now we can expect a strong democratic response, right? Right? Hello?

Unfuckingbelievable.

77. Nothing to fear at all: You're in "good hands" with the Republicans
The Republicans will protect your job (as they look the other way while it's shipped off to another country)

...and your Social Security (by looting it's funding, and converting the system from a guaranteed benefit program to a guaranteed risk ponzi scheme)

...and the security of the United States (by refusing to heed warnings from the previous administration about possible Islamic terrorism)

...and the United States military (by sending them undermanned on a fool's errand to a foreign threat that turns out not to be a threat at all)

...and the tax dollars earmarked for the military (by forking over countless billions to buddy Halliburton for overcharged services and equipment the troops often times won't even get)

...and America's traditional good relations with much of the world (by needlessly antagonizing our traditional allies)

...and America's manufacturing strength (by sitting around and doing absolutely nothing while China dominates the world's economy)

(Good grief, this is too easy -- and too sad. I could go on all day like this, but I don't want to further depress people.)
