Ohio governor fined $4,000 for ethics violations
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio Gov. Bob Taft pleaded no contest Thursday to charges that he broke state ethics law by failing to report golf outings and other gifts. A judge fined him $4,000.

Taft told the judge he chose not to plead guilty but was taking responsibility for ethics lapses. His no-contest plea wraps up the case less than 24 hours after Taft became the first Ohio governor charged with a crime.

He was fined the maximum $1,000 for each of four misdemeanor counts. No jail time was ordered; the charges carried a maximum sentence of six months on each count.

2. I am sure he can find some coins to pay for it
since he is such a buddy of Tom Noe and most of the violations involved him.

6. I wonder if this judge played golf with this piece of shit?
$4000 ain't nothing to these fat cats. What if Taft stuck his prick into the judge's mashed potatoes?

7. He was sniffing back tears @ his plea hearing .....
This is the tip of the iceberg ...... his lawyer, "He turned himself in"
but he forgot to say he did it only after Noe & coingate came out.

Funny, he knew about the lost millions in worker's comp last fall but
only talked about this june ..... again after the Toledo Blade came out w/
the facts.

Facts
he golfed with Noe
Noe's wife was head of the Lucas County BOE
Lucas county had many glitches and mathematical irregularities

8. What a colossal disappointment.
It seems Republicans must be so sweet judges just can't bring themselves to get too stern with them. Must be their good looks.

The governor has fired others over ethics violations. But he said Thursday he would not resign, saying he still can be an effective governor and has much he wants to accomplish.
Bless his heart. What a Republican.

14. Some wag referred to his dad as
"the Dagwood Bumstead of American politics" -- apple didn't fall too far, but Bumstead is good hearted, Taft looks like a doofus, but is one nasty bastid.

15. May not have enough posts yet
They have a minimum number before you can start a thread (they never say how many, just "not many") I imagine this is it, although I never tried to start a thread early on, so I don't know what message you get

welcome to DU!

18. A total slap on the wrist from the corrupt Ohio system...
He paid his money with a grin. Instead, legally he should be behind bars for four months. And at the least resign after this Noe scandal.
