Death of Iraqi brothers sparks anti-U.S. rage

BAGHDAD, Aug 18 (Reuters) - An angry Iraqi crowd carried coffins through a Baghdad district on Thursday and threw rocks at American soldiers, accusing U.S. troops of killing three innocent middle-aged brothers, one of them in a wheelchair.

The U.S. military said they had killed three "terrorists".

"They call everybody terrorists but they just commit terrorist acts whenever they want," said Mohsen Thabit, a friend of the men whom neighbours found shot in the head at home after a raid by U.S. and Iraqi troops in the Amiriya district overnight.

The bodies of Khalil, Khalid and Jamal Hussein, filmed by a neighbour, lay sprawled in their home, that of the crippled Khalil lying in the bathroom next to his wheelchair.

Iraqi men look at the body of a man who was killed during a raid in the Amariya area of west Baghdad August 18, 2005. Three civilians were shot dead after a raid on their house by U.S. and Iraqi troops, witnesses said. There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military.

7. Why? Because our troops are stressed out to the max.
They're being treated like androids by the bush administration, they are over there for too long and for too many tours, they know that anybody who doesn't look "American" could be dangerous and it gives them itchy trigger fingers. Their comrades are dying and being maimed horribly, and there is no "mission" to accomplish.

Bring our troops home and give the money we're spending there to the Iraqis for them to do what they want. I'm sick of all this killing that is only leading to more killing.

8. Because the media is broken, and people are inconsiderate.
Remember, we killed the inhabitants of this country in order to move in. We take first, and think later. I don't know why, because after all we are nothing more than a collection of people who immigrated here.
But, if we knew what the corporations were doing in our names, we would not stand for it. Noone wants to see suffering.

12. The Iraqis stand in the way of the oil reserves.
That's why. They completely deny it now, but history will be the final judge.

5. It got this bad quickly, and it's not getting better, is it?
From the article:
U.S. and Iraqi troops say they are under strict orders to respect human rights but Iraqis often complain they are too quick to draw their weapons. In such cases, troops generally say the casualties have been suspected of being suicide bombers.
(snip)
I hope the survivors will find some form of peace sometime in what's left of their lives.
