Ohio governor issues apology, vows to stay

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Gov. Bob Taft issued a public apology Thursday after pleading no contest to state ethics violations, saying "I accept total responsibility for my mistake" but insisting he would not resign.

"I will continue to do the job to which I have been elected by the people of the state of Ohio," Taft said. "There is no connection between golf or contributions and state contracts in our administration."

Taft said he chose not to plead guilty but was taking responsibility for failing to report golf outings and other gifts. Franklin County Municipal Judge Mark Froehlich found him guilty and fined him the maximum $1,000 for each of four misdemeanor counts. As expected, no jail time was ordered; he could have faced up to six months per count.

Taft, a great-grandson of President William Howard Taft, nodded as the charges were read.

2. If I robbed a store,
could I apologize and we'd all forget about it?

Oh, wait, he's not one of us peasants.

Different laws.

The folks who have the highest level of trust are allowed to steal the most.

23. Republicans -
believe it's their right to steal from the general populace. If you disagree, then you are NOT an American and are probably a terrorist communist sympathizer! Unfortunately, this doesn't even qualify as sarcasm any more.

7. hahaha, Here's a deal for him.
He can play golf and get paid and not resign (although his power will be only titular) if he does juse one thing: tell the complete truth on who put the fix in and how it was carried out in Election 2004 in Ohio.

That's all Bob, just the truty.

Oh, here's his picture at the defining moment of his life:

8. "Vows to stay."
The definition of vow (V.T.)) is: to promise solemnly. It relates to the definition of the noun, vow: a solemn promise or pledge. Bob Taft broke his vow of the oath of office he took in becoming the governor of Ohio. He violated the law that he was entrusted, as the chief executive of the state (under solemn vow!), to uphold and entrust. Now that he found to be as guilty as an egg-sucking dog, what does he do? Makes another fucking hollow promise.

:puke:

We need another Republican to lay a dose of whup-ass on going into the 2006 election cycle. Another repub going down for the count. I love it.

Another poster child for the stupid right is your secretary of state (the black guy that loves to hear himself talk) or whatever he is with you. The one that thinks he's Gods gift to humanity, whatever his name is.

We'll get you two adjoining cells later.

13. Taft Issues Apology, Vows to Stay In Office (!)
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Aug. 19) - Gov. Bob Taft, a lame duck leader and now a convicted criminal for state ethics violations, said there is still important work for him to do and he will not resign.

Taft said he can remain an effective governor despite his plea of no contest Thursday to charges that he failed to report numerous golf outings since taking office in 1999. He's barred by law from seeking a third term next year.

16. Fvcking Wordsmiths.
"I accept total responsibility for my mistake"

It wasn't a mistake, it was a fvcking crime. That kind of bunk goes right along side of "I apologize if anyone took my words the wrong way". These people are killing the English language.

taking words, heating them way up and beating the hell out of them until they are bent completely out of their original shape and form, then yes - they are "wordsmiths."

18. Thanks for staying Bob! - The Democratic Party
This guy keeps handing out ammunition that will come in use election day. Best news I've heard all day. I recently spoke to a hardcore republican from Ohio, between the Republican Party and GOP and Bush's second half showing he's alienated as hell at the entire party.

The time is ripe folks to grab those leaning to switch over to the Dems and it takes more than just attacking the Republicans (and don't rub it in that you were right all along).

When do the impeachment proceedings start? Surely even Republicans won't defend having a convicted criminal in office!

25. You know, Taft won by a 2-1 margin in 2002.
But yet, I can't find ANYONE who says they voted for him in 2002, not even the most die-hard Republicans.
