Judge Crater found?
Dead gal's secret letter may solve 1930 mystery

By ALISON GENDAR and LEO STANDORA
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Judge Joseph Crater
Police may be on the brink of finally finding the remains of Judge Joseph Crater - and possibly solving the most enduring mystery in New York City history, investigators said yesterday.

A letter probably penned more than half a century ago has pinpointed a spot under the Coney Island boardwalk where Crater - last seen leaving a Times Square watering hole 75 years ago - is buried, they said.

The letter was written by an elderly woman who died of natural causes in June, they said.

...

For generations, Joseph Crater - a Tammany Hall stalwart, justice of the state Supreme Court and dapper man about town - has been what some newspapers have called "the most missingest man in America."

1. This might make a GREAT movie, if the mystery is solved
Costumes, drama, history, a compelling story....

Course, it requires people to think in context, and there aren't any aliens or car chases, so maybe not...

But someone oughta get on it!

5. Frank Sinatra Jr. knows where Hoffa is
At least if Kitty Kelly is to be believed, Frankie almost told her while being interviewed for her book on his father.

9. Well Frank died
So unless we use a Ouija board at the right time, we still won't know if Kitty Kelly was being honest or where Hoffa is buried.

16. Ooops, sorry - I wouldn't think junior would know about Hoffa
I just don't see him as "in" with that crowd.

18. Yes, but his dad gave up the goods,
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 10:37 AM by fudge stripe cookays
see?

Dad used to hang with all those guys, so let him know all the poop before he died, supposedly. Frank Sr. knew the Kennedys, and Giancana, and all those other mobsters, so he would know that stuff.

17. No, he hasn't. My mistake - I didn't associate the son with the
crowd allegedly involved in the disappearance of Hoffa so I automatically assumed it was the father.

7. "Judge Crater, Call your Office" graffiti days are numbered.
Dan Rowan and Dick Martin referred to him at least 5 times over the years on the classic, "Laugh-In" Show!

10. On our Canadian History Channel, there was a program that
covered this story, it was quite fascinating. Here is a little more in the whole mystery:

15. Interesting!
I first heard about him on a show on HBO in the late 1970s or early 1980s that dealt with unsolved mysteries, including Zodiac, Crater, the Hall-Mills murder in NJ...I forget some of the others.

I can't wait to see what they "dig up."
