Moderate earthquake rattles Italian capital
A moderate earthquake had people checking their footing in Rome Monday.

According to initial estimates from the National Geophysics and Vulcanology Institute, the earthquake had a magnitude of approximately 4.5 on the Richter scale.

In its own estimate, the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake centred off Italy's west coast, 50 kilometres south of Rome, moved with a force of 4.8.

Striking shortly after 2 p.m. local time, the quake shook buildings, but is not believed to have caused any significant damage in the capital.
