[Pat] Robertson called for the assassination of Venezuela's president
http://mediamatters.org/items/200508220006

Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him . And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

I can call myself a Queen. Doesn't make me one.

Robertson embodies all of the qualities that are opposite of Christianity:

1. He advocates violence.
2. He advocates killing.
3. He advocates lying.
4. He advocates stealing.

He has broken most of the Commandments and ignored every one of the Beatitudes. He only wears the mantle of Christianity to make money and further his own twisted agenda.

Sadly, some people can't see through him. His followers are following a false prophet.

It's my opinion however that these folks like robertson don't even seriously attempt, in any way, to be 'christ like' rather, they seem to be what I can only call, "jehovists". They don't seem to think the new testament means much. All they got is: follow the church leadership in all things, judge and punish sin (despite even jehovah saying 'judgment is MINE'), don't think too much. This is no way to live and for that I truly pity the poor fools sucked into fall-well's or robertson's traps. May they find peace in some life one day.

377. irony
The irony is that the neo-con government has already come close to attempting or attempted an assasination of Chavez. The coup they tried in Feb 03' was all backed and coordinated by Washington. I was amazed that it failed. I am sure they had black ops all over the place plotting assasination scenarios. Venezuala was one of the first countrys and ports secured when we declared war on Germany in 41' for obvious reasons. I am sure that it is high on the list of bush priorities to kill Chavez and fully privatize their oil reserves for distribution thru our corporate energy pigs. The bush-turd is a mass serial murderer. The more the merrier. I think he lives to designate the killing of others. I think he gets off on it and is a full blown psychotic who has very strong urges to act out and committ official murder at various intervals. Certainly his bloody tenure as head of that backwater patch of rattlesnake grass known as texas confirms his penchant for killing. Just think of how many deaths he is directly responsible for since the phony invasion of Afghanistan began. Hundreds of thousands. He is a mass serial killer, a baby in the lineage of Stalin,Hitler and Pol Pot. If he could he would murder more and murder often. Any normal person having to spend one day inside that murderer's skin would probably suffocate and die from the hour by hour self-loathing. Just all the energy one would need to summon just to put on appearances when you are carrying inside of you the screaming ghosts of whole armies of your victims. No wonder the guy feverishly mountain bikes for 2 hours a day. He is desparately trying metabolize his innumerable sins, his horrific crimes against humanity. I can only imagine how much medication they have this psychotic on. Probably anti-psychotic medicine, heavy sleeping potions, uppers for when he is overwhelmed by depression and needs to be moved about in front of a crowd and beta blockers most of the rest of the time for his constant rage and deep irritability.

Now we await to see if he stages a terror attack against his own country this fall in order to up his ratings. There is no question that not a few in his closed circle will be arguing for it. They have far,far too many skeletons in their closet to risk losing power to the other party in 06' and 08' even if they do control the vote count.

360. Would Rev. Robertson please remind us all....
what the 6th commandment is? From the New International Version "You shall not murder". (King James English is out of date for these times).

A similie for assissinate is murder, is it not?

So therefore he's calling for the murder of someone, which is very much against the Word of God that I believe in as a Christian.

I guess all us Christians need to pray for the Reverend Robertson. I certainly will be praying for him, because he has said something very publically that is against the very Word of God that he preaches. If religious leaders preach things that are against the very religion itself, such as what the Reverend did with 9/11, other things he's said and can't remember, and now calling for the assassination of an individual then I cannot accept them as being a true leader of their faith and as such are considered perverted. I'm sorry to say that I feel that the Reverend is preaching a perverted form of Christianity.

276. CINO -Christian in name only
It is really sad because Christ's message is so beautiful:

1. Love thy neighbor as thyself.
2. Be kind to others.
3. Turn the other cheek.
4. Take care of the poor.
5. Judge not lest ye be judged.
6. Those who are without sin, cast the first stone.
7. Do not love riches or wealth.
8. Blessed are the meek, the peacemakers, the poor of spirit, the downtrodden.

Jesus taught love, tolerance, peace, hope and love.

Of course, Robertson couldn't make money off of those teachings, could he?

272. VegasWolf - I believe that THIS is a better way to put it
"I guess that Christian principles don't matter to those hypocrites. How can sane people listen to the crap that Robertson and his ilk spew?"

That's closer to the truth.

Robertson only uses the mantle of "Christian" to further his own hatred. People assume that he is a Christian but Christ would more than likely toss him out of the temple if He were here today.

354. VegasWolf, may I respectfully say something?
I appreciate and respect your views. I don't call you names or imply that you are stupid for your beliefs. Why do you feel the need to do that to me or other Christians?

I am not "drinking the kool aid" because I believe in God. It's what I believe.

Yes, some Popes were insane. Some world leaders were insane. Look at *. He's about as over the edge as you can get. There are all kinds of insane folks out there in the world. That doesn't mean that all religious leaders are insane or clowns or idiots.

I am amazed at the folks who, when something like this is spewed out from a so-called "Christian" leader, almost dance with glee and use it as an opportunity to make statements that question the sanity and intelligence of ALL Christians.

If someone started making those types of comments about my Wiccan friends or my atheist friends, I'd set them straight in a heartbeat.

christians, that would obviously wrong. No one said
that all leaders are that way. To insinuate that is putting words in my mouth. That said, I do believe that there is a huge predisposition to mysticism that MANY religious people exhibit.
This predisposition of SOME to believe the incredible, at all odds with reason, simply leaves many people like myself flabbergasted
and shaking their heads.

Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 11:51 AM by arnheim
Look at some of your comments, VegasWolf.

"Arnheim - Sip all the koolaid you want."
"I guess that hypocrisy doesn't matter to the christians."
"I learned to think for myself and promptly left the church."

These imply that Christians are "sipping the koolaid", can't think for ourselves and don't care about hypocrisy.

It's called faith. Faith is when you believe something that you can't prove, see, feel, touch, etc. Does it mean that I'm stupid, non-thinking or mentally ill? No, it doesn't.

The predisposition of SOME to believe that there is nothing after we die simply leaves many people like myself flabbergasted and shaking their heads. ;)

The common ground that we share, in my opinion, is also important. That is why I respect those who don't believe as I do. I, sometimes naively, expect that same treatment as well.

If you did not mean to insult all Christians, then please try to temper your remarks to say what you mean.

You say in another post that you have had religious training. If that is so, then you should know what the teachings of Christ are and you should know that nothing that comes from Robertson's mouth reflects the teachings of Christ in any way.

of decades has Christianity been COMPLETELY HIJACKED by the insane Christofascist sectarians. The wisdom of Christ's teachings is traditional wisdom found in many cultures.

You could stand to read a couple of good objective books about the other side of Christianity and how the religion has been hijacked:
Stealing Jesus by Bruce Bawer (sp?)
Rescuing The Bible From Fundamentalism by John Shelby Spong

And NO, I AM NOT TRYING TO CONVERT YOU, silly. I'm not Christian, per se, but I am also not afraid to learn about it.

Many Christians are trying to call him out. Robertson is powerful. The new religious left movement will give many of us the support, the numbers and the "one voice" that we need to fight those of Robertson's ilk.

Christ taught love, tolerance, kindness, caring, love and peace. Robertson can't preach that because it won't earn him any money. For Pat, it's about the money and the power. In the beginning, he may have wanted to spread the word of Christ but I believe that the power and the cash twisted his soul.

I sincerely hope that people don't judge Christians by Pat. That would be wrong because we all aren't like him.

be affected". It wasn't those exact words but he said something similar.

He is driven by what BuschCo is and it isn't religion or respect for God. It is greed. They use religion to gain power and they use that power to gain more power and money.

177. Speaking of horses, Pat has owned race horses.
From Wikipedia:
Robertson's great personal wealth and his uses of it. His net worth is between $200 million and $1 billion USD according to the 2002 book The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast. Through his ostensibly charitable organization, Operation Blessing International, Robertson claims to have spent $1.2 million bringing aid to refugees in Rwanda. His critics, such as Palast, claim the money was actually spent to bring heavy equipment for Robertson's African Development Corporation, a diamond mining operation. He has purchased thoroughbred race horses, although he has stated on many occasions he is opposed to gambling. Robertson claims he bought the horses because he is "amazed by their athleticism".

237. That poor horse should not have to carry such an evil man.
:) Pat looks silly in that jacket. No horse people that I know wear something like that to ride. He's not wearing protective headgear. He must be depending on God to protect his freakishly large cranium in the event of all fall or kick.

If he's not racing the Thoroughbreds then he must be using them for breeding purposes. Most racehorses are stallions or mares. Stallions who are not going to breed after racing are usually gelded and retrained as riding horses or sent to the slaughterhouse. :(

Many people use approved Thoroughbred mares to breed with European warmbloods. I can't imagine that Pat's in good enough shape to ride a retrained off the track Thoroughbred. OTTTs are retrained over the period of 6 months to a year after their racing career is over. They are let down slowly off the food and training and taught to be ridden with proper hand (bit) and leg aids. They are then used for the hunter-jumpers, fox hunting, pleasure riding and three day eventing.

The dam is approved for breeding with the Oldenburg Verband of Vechta, Germnay. She's in the Main MAre Book which is very prestigous! Not all approve mares are so highly placed! Here's my 2 year old baby, Cotton (on the right with white socks) enjoying her morning hay with her friend Magic. :)

How is your OTTT coming along? That is quite a project to train them to be a riding horse. Good luck! I'm glad that one found a good home with you! Aren't horses grand? I just love them so! :)

303. She's doing great!
here she is!

I haven't had a lot of time for much ring work this summer, since she lives with my parents 2 hours away from where I went to school. But every time I get home I take her out at least for a trail ride,
and I do try to keep her on the bit during those outings and do some leg yields on a flat piece of terrain, etc. She has a really good head, I lucked out! Now and then we have a flakey moment, but I find that if I project ease and confidence, she does the same. Now I have moved 1400 miles away (from NY to Arkansas!) and I am bringing her down in less than 3 weeks! Yay! The farm where I am keeping her is letting me exercise their Irish Hunters to work off some of her board. At 15.3 she'll be the smallest one, but that's OK. She has enough spice and spunk for 18 hands! She's really quite talented, the problem I've had in the past with some OTT's is that their gaits are flat and uninspired. She has incredible scope in her gaits and just floats over the ground. Gorgeous!

I love your Oldenburgs! Beautiful! Wow the Main Mare Book! I;m impressed. Dressage is my passion and background and I have always loved the warmbloods, tho could never afford one myself. Now I hope to breed my OTT at some point and raise the baby. I've worked with abused horses since I was 10, so I think I;m ready to take on a pampered warmblood! :) Best of luck to you with yours, and I;ll be keeping an eye out for you!

314. Your mare is a BEAUTY! I love the redheads! She's got just enough chrome
to be fancy and flashy in the dressage ring! Her face is so sweet! She's got a tremendous heart girth and is well sprung through the ribs. I can see how she would be good at dressage. She has a warmblood build. I know that lots of TB 3 day eventers find dressage to be the trickiest phase. 15.3 is a great size. It's really perfect. Cotton's sire is 17h and her dam is about 15.2h. I hope Cotton tops out at 16.0h. I don't want a really big horse. I'm over 40 and it's a long way to the ground! ;)

I only have the one horse. She lives on a breeding farm with her mom, half-brother, many aunties and two uncles along with lots of other equine friends (21 in all). The stallion, Corominio, lives in Maryland. His owner says that he has the BEST temperament of any stallion she's ever known! He's actually a bit lazy! He got top marks in willingness to work and temperament at his stallion approvals which is why the breeder choose him to breed with the TB mare. In addition, his first foal crop consisted of foals who were all awarded premium status!

I highly recommend Oldenburgs! They are smart, love to learn and have good personalities not to mention they are so elegant! The mare must be approved for breeding prior for a foal to be considered for approval as an Oldenburg. The Germans come to the USA and Canada every year foran approvals tour. The North American Division of the Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes e.V. is who you need to contact in the USA for infromation of the Oldenburg horse. We took Cotton's dam to be approved with her colt at her side. The mare was put in the main mare book and the foal was approved as an Oldenburg! There were TB, Holsteiner, Arab and, of course, Oldenburg mares presented for approval. You might give breeding a try! The only way that I afforded Cotton was to buy her as a 6 month old baby! I couldn't afford a fully grown and trained warmblood! I can't ride her until she's 4. We've got lots of work and training to do until then! I want to teach her to drive!

184. Excellent link! This is so predictable, too, based on his past behavior.
From the article, concerning his partner in crime, Charles Taylor:
Under Taylor's regime, Liberia totters on the brink of chaos. Racked by civil war, the nation is poor and close to anarchy. Thousands have been killed and tortured by Taylor's troops, police and security forces, and Taylor is accused of backing rebels in neighboring Sierra Leone, spawning more death and destruction there.

In a Nov. 3 column, King wrote, "The international community has received a steady stream of reports detailing police floggings, kickings and burning of a detainee's skin with hot plastic to extract confessions; victims stripped naked, made to kneel on iron bars and whipped with belts and cables; the jailed people lying face down on the floor while police walk on their wrists and forearms."

On Nov. 30, Robertson replied to King's columns, asserting in a letter to the editor that he has never met Charles Taylor and insisting that his employees there have "found freedom of religion, freedom of movement, freedom of expression and what appears to be a judiciary dedicated to the rule of law."
(snip)
Concerning Robertson's personal refinery in California:
Most local residents adamantly oppose the refinery project. The New York Times reported that protestors have marched outside the plant and "dragged effigy in the streets, depicting him with devil's horns and a pointy red tail."

The refinery is located in a section of town that is about 70 percent Latino. It is surrounded by a hospital, a home for the elderly and a neighborhood school. Residents told The Times that when the plant was running, it belched smoke so noxious it peeled the paint off cars.
(snip)
He's doing God's work, making the world a better place (for himself).

Chavez was overwhelmingly elected, survived a coup, then survived a recall (anyone notice how close in time that was to the recall we had in 'Kaleevornia'), and they keep talking about what a threat he is to democracy!

And Gas there is only $0.12 a gallon! What an evil prick.

41. Interesting - we have all these covert operatives to take out dictators -
we don't really need to go to war to get rid of them. So, explain Iraq to me Pat. Explain the push by Bush/Cheney to wage another war on Iran. Explain why Osama Bin Forgotten is still on the loose while you're at it. Is it really as simple as placing a to-go order?

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

186. Hi 54anickel !!
Thanks for the WELCOME! I understand what you're saying and I really know where you're coming from. I do miss the fellowship and my heart is heavy that I've been unable to find a Church I'm comfortable with. When I lived in the Berkshires I attended my Church twice on Sunday, one midweek service, one night for choir rehearsal, and one night for my daughters youth group. This was an AG Church! I have two older daughters who attended AG Colleges. But when I moved to Ct. in 1984 I started looking for a Church home to no avail! I used to go up to the Berkshires once a month for services at my best friends Congregational Church (female, Dr. of Theology, Minister) We are such close friends that every time I go up there , it's like I never left. I'm new to the little Ct. town I'm in now, and have yet to try one here. I hate to say it, but I have no desire to ever attend an EVANGELICAL Church again. I plan on checking out the Congr. and Luthern Churches in town. I was raised a Luthern, and it's a little too formal for me now. I have'nt given up entirely, but since Bush has been in power, they all leave a bad taste in my mouth!! I know my Mom and Dad are rolling over in thier graves!!!

190. Good luck in your search. I know it can be difficult. I went thru the
same thing years ago. Married into a "fundie" family - the hypocrisy drove me crazy and drove both of us away from having anything to do with any church. I've gone through a lot of life changing events over the last 20 years since then.

I've been attending a Lutheran church for the past 6 or so years - ya it's still pretty formal, but it's going through some changes in that regard. I was a bit too liberal for this congregation when I first started getting involved, but they are changing and growing. It's actually been a rewarding (though sometimes frustrating) learning experience. Hope you can find a new fellowship home.

Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 04:11 PM by xray s
Robertson worships Mammon. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He is a religious goat, as described in Matthew 25...

31When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

63. Note to all Christians
You may want to start using a different moniker, and this is coming from someone who has respect for "real" Christianity. I'm afraid the Christian label has been completely compromised by filth like Robertson.

I think that Christ would be the first to condone the name change. Back in his day, he called people like Pat Robertson and George Bush Pharisees. They now call themselves Christians. You don't want your closely-held faith to be wrongly associated with hatefulness and evil.

It's something to think about.

309. You're right, it's easy to remove the "s from "Christians".
It isn't personal, many people have seen the fundyness of the Church that seemed and still remains somewhat prevelant and chose to flee it.

I'm not the only person I know who was drummed out of a church for 'daring' to not see things from an extreme right wing side on some subject. I've also seen churches that welcome in everyone, The hypocracy still exists in those as well though. I will admit to even having judged a church as being extremist from overhearing some parishioners speaking. It's an easy thing to do to forget the two sides fo Christianity.

The Real lessons of Jesus and the political Christianity started by
constantine in 300 that wiped out most of the real Christianity as heretics (The basis of the word actually) Taking the orriginal ideas from Jesus that spoke very little about his divinity and offered it as being something that wasn't just achieved through him, but through your actions and your heart.

There are still two forms of Christian, those who truly live their lives trying to be kind to their fellow man. While I do not consider myself a Christian I do consier myself the kind of human who tries to live by that kind of example.

Then there is the "Christian", those who say "Giving to the poor and the government for acts to take care of those who don't have medical care of a job that pays enough is comparable to sharing your GPA wiith someone who's got a 1.0 when you're got a 4.0." (Paraphrased actual quote.)

Of the latter I can only look at them and think, "Ah, but when a 4.0 tutots a 1.0 who seriously wants to be a 4.0, often the 4.0 does not lose their GPA for 'sharing' their knowledge, rather they often get to help someone better themself and ensure that they will have a better knowledge for the form of study that teaching and tutoring involves."

It applies everywhere.

He reminds me of the preacher who rails against pornography on Sunday morning, then graciously accepts kickbacks from the porno publisher because they are both keeping one another in business.

Then maybe Robertson can surround himself with highly-paid bodyguards and live in total paranoia like his golden-calf idol bush.

After all, he is the leader of a country that has been OVERWHELMINGLY re-elected 4 times while pat is just a common terrorist.

Certainly GW would approve.

By GW's standards, Chavez would be within his rights to nuke the USA!

So, Covert Political Assassination is now a Christian Value? I don't think so.

89. You have to be a right-wing genocidal dictator to get on Robertson's good
side. He has adored Latin American monsters for decades:
.....CANDIDATE ROBERTSON'S CENTRAL AMERICA POLICY
by Sara Diamond, copyright 1986

TV preacher Pat Robertson is the only prospective
presidential candidate who not only has a Central America policy
but also provides Bibles, beans, and maybe even bullets to U.S.
backed forces in the region.

Until recently, Robertson was seen by most as just another
slick televangelist. But his soft-spoken style is misleading; his
actions speaker louder than his words.

Robertson's controversial activities include: support for
the slaughter of thousands of Indians by a Guatemalan dictator;
public praise for the reputed leader of Salvadoran death squads;
collaboration with murky U.S. mercenary groups; and the provision
of chaplains and funds to the contra army seeking to topple the
government of Nicaragua.

...you beat me to the post! In it, Sara writes: "...he praised death squad leader Robert D'Aubuisson as a 'very nice fellow'." Mr. D'Aubuisson is only the founder of the death squads in El Salvador, easily the most brutal of them all. I wonder, did Patty boy pay D'Aubuisson's tuition at School of the Americas?

El Salvador, 1980-89. On TV D'Aubuisson, using military intelligence files, denounced teachers, labor leaders, union organizers and politicians. Within days their mutilated bodies found. Washington had identified most leaders of death squads as members Salvadoran security forces with ties to D'Aubuisson.

160. They probably can't grasp what makes him tick. They're from a lower realm.
It's amazing to think one small planet can contain both people like those two wrecks, and Desmond Tutu! The pompous ones are the criminal class christians.

Here's what Robertson has to say about other religions:
Here are a few of Pat Robertson’s observations on people whose faith is different from his own. On Hindus: "What is Hinduism but devil worship, ultimately?" On Muslims: "To see Americans become followers of Islam is nothing short of insanity. Why would people in America want to embrace the religion of the slaves?" Last summer Robertson opined that the Catholic understanding of Holy Communion was like telling us "to be like cannibals."

Now if you are not yet offended, brother Robertson has little regard even for mainstream Protestants: "You say, ‘You’re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense! I don’t have to be nice to the spirit of the anti-Christ."

103. The Robertson's must have found a gold mine in Venezuela
to rival the little gem we went to Liberia to safeguard.
http://www.theperspective.org/patrobertson_taylor.html
"Over the past few months, columnist Colbert King of the Washington Post had used his columns to expose Pat Robertson's dealing in Liberia. In a series of articles King had sketched out Robertson's profit motives, and his quest to strike it in rich gold in Liberia, which has overriden any morality of doing business with one of Africa's most notorious tyrants.

What Colbert King has been writing about is Pat Robertson's desire to make profits at the expense of all else which has become a study in contrasts of a self-professed Christian, who has piously mouthed indignation at others for their alleged immoral conduct.

Rev. Robertson is not troubled or concerned at all about doing business with President Taylor, a man widely known for "fueling the violence in Sierra Leone" and "actively supporting the RUF at all levels." Taylor is a known menace to his people as well as a danger to his neighbors in the West African sub-region. The heinous atrocities he inflicted upon the Liberian people are well documented, yet Pat Robertson claims to "have no knowledge of the activities in Liberia during its bitter civil war."

But then Robertson is a man of contradictions, a self-proclaimed righteous man whose actions often betray his words. Shortly after the Sept.11 tragedy, according to GQ, an upscale men's fashion magazine, Robertson posted an odd message on his Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) web site. "The focus of many in America has been the pursuit of health, wealth, material pleasures and sexuality." He continued "Sadly, those in the churches have been as self-indulgent as those in the world.""

Yes, and I was grateful to Mr. King for pointing me in the direction of the Five Sisters from Illinois in October 1992, who wouldn't desert the people they were serving - even in the face of impending death. It is believed that the soldiers who did them to death were under Charles Taylor's command.

As for Pat Robertson...it's said that you can judge a man by the company he keeps - especially as he's done business with Charles Taylor!

All Americans who read this, should buy their gas from Citgo

Whewww!! Jaw dropping!! I didn't even think Robertson was that evil--and stupid.

Plop him in the cell with Eric Rudolph, because he's no better than that bloodthirsty, immoral--UNCHRISTIAN--killer.

God forbid, we actually allow a leader elected democratically keep his job. We had the chance to win his favor during the coup by condemning it--but W and Co. blew it again and sided rhetorically with the coup instigators.

It should be illegal to call for the assassination of ANY president of ANY country

Hi, Pat!

Who would Jesus assassinate?

I ask this because you apparently think that the assassination of a democratically elected leader is a good idea. Do you think Jesus would agree with you? Do you think Jesus would approve of your self-serving "ministry," or do you think, maybe, he would instead overturn your money-changing table and slap you upside the head?

Let's pick a date and develop a sign-up form for "A Day of Violating Pat Robertson."

I (insert name) Pledge that on Sunday, August 28th at 12:00 PM local time, I will:
(select one)
a) Pray for Pat Robertson to die
b) Think about Pat Robertson while I masturbate
c) Both a and b simultaneously or consecutively

I know, for most people the idea of wanking to a picture of Pat Robertson is a major "libido killer."

But as anyone who has ever been at a bar after last call knows, where there is a will there is (usually) a way.

196. Radical Cleric Pat Robertson Issues Fatwa on Chavez
The Fundamentalist Extremist Radical Cleric issued a Fatwa on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on August 22.

Don't think it's the "Christian" thing to do? Think again.

Here's a little refresher on Christian history from Robert G. Ingersoll's "Heretics And Heresies":

It is claimed that God wrote a book called the Bible, and it is generally admitted that this book is somewhat difficult to understand. As long as the church had all the copies of this book, and the people were not allowed to read it, there was comparatively little heresy in the world; but when it was printed and read, people began honestly to differ as to its meaning. A few were independent and brave enough to give the world their real thoughts, and for the extermination of these men the church used all her power. Protestants and Catholics vied with each other in the work of enslaving the human mind. For ages they were rivals in the infamous effort to rid the earth of honest people. They infested every country, every city, town, hamlet and family. They appealed to the worst passions of the human heart. They sowed the seeds of discord and hatred in every land. Brother denounced brother, wives informed against their husbands, mothers accused their children, dungeons were crowded with the innocent; the flesh of the good and true rotted in the clasp of chains; the flames devoured the heroic, and in the name of the most merciful God, his children were exterminated with famine, sword, and fire. Over the wild waves of battle rose and fell the banner of Jesus Christ. for sixteen hundred years the robes of the church were red with innocent blood. The ingenuity of Christians was exhausted in devising punishment severe enough to be inflicted upon other Christians who honestly and sincerely differed with them upon any point whatever.

Give any orthodox church the power, and to-day they would punish heresy with whip, and chain, and fire. As long as a church deems a certain belief essential to salvation, just so long it will kill and burn if it has the power. Why should the church pity a man whom her God hates? Why should she show mercy to a kind and noble heretic whom her God will burn in eternal fire? Why should a Christian be better than his God? It is impossible for the imagination to conceive of a greater atrocity than has been perpetrated by the church. Every nerve in the human body capable of pain has been sought out and touched.

Let it be remembered that all churches have persecuted heretics to the fullest extent of their power. Toleration has increased only when and where the power of the church has diminished. From Augustine until now the spirit of the Christians has remained the same. There has been the same intolerance, the same undying hatred of all who think for themselves, and the same determination to crush out of the human brain all knowledge inconsistent with an ignorant creed...

According to the theologians, God, the Father of us all, wrote a letter to his children. The children have always differed somewhat as to the meaning of this letter. In consequence of these honest differences, these brothers began to cut out each other's hearts. In every land, where this letter from God has been read, the children to whom and for whom it was written have been filled with hatred and malice. They have imprisoned and murdered each other, and the wives and children of each other. In the name of God every possible crime has been committed, every conceivable outrage has been perpetrated. Brave men, tender and loving women, beautiful girls, and prattling babes have been exterminated in the name of Jesus Christ. For more than fifty generations the church has carried the black flag. Her vengeance has been measured only by her power. During all these years of infamy no heretic has ever been forgiven. With the heart of a fiend she has hated; with the clutch of avarice she has grasped; with the jaws of a dragon she has devoured; pitiless as famine, merciless as fire, with the conscience of a serpent: such is the history of the Church of God.

Why I Am Concerned About the Religious Reich:

The Religious Right is really OUT OF CONTROL and is exerting a greater and greater influence on our society. They are flexing their muscles in the political process, the economy and our entire culture.

Let us remember that the first time Christianity spread rapidly and gained control of the government (from 200 - 500 AD) it resulted in the utter collapse of Western Civilization and ushered in 1,000 years of darkness, superstition, ignorance and suffering.

Finally, after a millennium of Darkness, mankind began to see the Dawn of The Age of Reason and The Enlightenment. Humanity recovered some dignity, science was freed from the chains of religious superstition and real progress began.

The Constitution of the United States of America was one of the crowning achievements of The Enlightenment, being a document for the Establishment of a government that did NOT MAKE ONE SINGLE REFERENCE TO "GOD". With the establishment of the United States, government as well as science was freed from the domination of religious superstition.

Now, every day in the news there is some story about how the religionists are exerting their influence. Radical Clerics like James Dobson and Jerry Falwell get air time on network news. Religionists are organizing and boycotting businesses that do not adhere to their version of personal morality.

The specter of religious superstition is once again casting a frightening shadow over our world. The ghosts and demons of the Dark Ages, once believed to be banished forever by Reason, are again haunting our culture. Christianity destroyed civilization once before - it could happen again.

Dominionism's Theocratic Designs and Radical Clerics

Fundamentalist Radical Clerics such as Falwell, Dobson, and Robertson are not merely medieval throwbacks or misguided religious hacks. They are part of a well organized subversionary movement known as "Dominionism". Dominionism constitutes a serious threat to American Democracy. These Radical Clerics have developed and are executing a detailed plan to gradually replace the free, secular democratic society of the United States with a Theocracy.

It is critical that people become aware of the extreme agenda these people have for the United States and ultimately for the world. The results of the 2004 Presidential Election were not a fluke or something that was drummed up over a period of months. It has been in planning for over 20 years, and what we are seeing take place now is, in the words of Katherine Yurica, "the swift advance of a planned coup".

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any revivals will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Constitution, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy in our midst, controlling a huge number of mindless zombies, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, ass-backward preacher. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

201. Christian fundamentalism is destroying America.
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 12:36 AM by Zenlitened
From the terrorist bombings carried out by Eric Rudolph, to the nationwide effort to cast knowledge and reason out of the science classrooms, to the armageddon-fetishists setting US policy in the Middle East... to radical clerics calling for "hits" on their perceived enemies.

And all in the name of dear ol' lovable Jesus Christ.

Islamic fundamentalism may seem a bigger threat, but it's not. So far, at least, Islamists don't have a strangle-hold on our government. They're not walking the halls of power, or running multi-million broadcast empires, funding media assault teams and training academies, corrupting millions of Americans -- our neighbors, our co-workers, even our families -- with their bitter ideology.

It's christian fundamentalists who are doing this. And it's not enough to say "they're not real christians," because they ARE real christians. They worship christ as divine, the son of god and the path to salvation. Robertson alone commands a flock of millions, instructing them, blessing them, urging them in christly prayer, leading them in hymns to christ the lord.

What will it take for America to recognize this threat, and rise up and meet it? More bombings, more shootings, more christian solders out to kick some ass? Or will it be the slow strangulation of our American ideals, when your very thoughts can brand you an enemy, the person you love makes you a target, the very money you pay in taxes is used to make your place in society a ghetto, or perhaps a prison?

It will be a happy day when Pat Robertson is dead. The world will be a measurably better place, when the burden of his evil, hurtful hate no longer grind us down. But there are others like him, ready to step forward, and the sick and brainless followers are practically beyond count, ready to be set in motion by all the machinations of an empire assembled by Robertson, built on the backs of miners and other slaves, paid for in blood. What's the answer? Can the followers be cured, weaned away from their evil leaders? Or must we first "decapitate" the leadership, arrest them, try them on genuine charges, and put them away?

The Robertsons of the world aren't the crazies anymore, they're the mainstream, and those who profess to practice a different, gentler fomr of christianity have been relegated to the fringe. The enemy within has grown strong. Are we strong enough to confront it, before it tears our whole house down?

Mainstream Christians as well as the more conventional fundamentalists had better start repudiating the likes of Robertson, Dobson etc. or they will be forced to live with their politicized right wing "religionism" for decades. Christianity will become a discredited political movement rather than a religion.

(8-23-05 1:39AM EST)

Sources close to http://www.dilby.com tell Dilby, the day before Cindy Sheehan left to attend to her mother, President Bush wanted to meet with her and create a media blitz. Bush had seen the public outcry and he almost gave in to the anti-war activist, but his closest advisors decided it would be best for Bush not to meet with the grieving mother because the far-left would use meeting against Republicans in upcoming elections. In addition, Michael Moore was to use the footage of the meeting between Bush and Sheehan to revive his agenda in order to help boost Democratic votes in the 2008 Presidential Election. Moore has had embedded cameras and/or correspondents just in case Sheehan met with President Bush.

I'm sure that Bush was being held back from talking to Cindy. He really, really wanted to see her...I'm quite sure. But, alas, his handlers told him no because that evil Michael Moore was out there and he could scare the president.

Please. What crap.

Televangelist Calls for Chavez' Death

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Chavez has emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of
President Bush, accusing the United States of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. U.S. officials have called the accusations ridiculous.......

Where in the Bible...

did Jesus say it was ok to murder one's political foes?

I seem to recall Jesus teaching the Beatitudes. Do you remember those? I seriously doubt a militant, radical cleric such as yourself even cares about what the Bible says. You're like the typical GOP member today: money, money, money, power, money, power.

Do the world a favor and make yourself scarce.

the form of a quiz:

Dear Pat

I posted under "other" because you don't have a "political assassination" category. While I have a pretty good idea that Torquemada might support you, and I think George Fox might come down hard on the other side, how about - now this is a tough one - Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Would he agree that its just okey dokey to knock off foreign political leaders we don't like. Remember, he did shift from pacifism to involvement in the planning of the Hitler's death. At the same time, he was a German clergyman who put his own life on the line. While you can use the Beatitudes, you can't rely on the Monroe Doctrine. You may start now.

These fascists are so far out of the closet I don't know why they bother to hide behind religion any more.

Oh, wait, I do. It's the tool they use to control the followers. As long as the "faithful" are following, they retain some power.

I would so love to return to a world where Christianity had something to do with Christ, where peace did not mean war, and where the sounds of silence did not mean people talking without speaking or hearing without listening.

233. I feel badly for the good people in his organization
I read a book about the PTL scandal, called "Forgiven". Behind all these televangelists, there are numerous good people who are involved because they think they can feed the poor, clothe the naked, and visit the imprisoned, like Jesus called christians to do, or at least contribute money to programs to do those things.

"The 700 Club" has a charitable organization called Operation Rescue, that funds a number of outreach programs at home and abroad. In Detroit, they funded a few churches who had food distribution programs for the poor-not just members of their churches, but the poor at large. One church was handing out free lunches to the homeless people in Clark Park at one point, I don't know if this program is still going on. They also fund school clothes for poor kids, so that every kid has at least one new outfit for the new school year. They bring medical care to third world countries, and famine relief. The good works done by them should be separated from the insane ravings of their leader.

Perhaps Pat is developing alzheimer's? Or there's more in those age-defying shakes than we all thought?

Christianity is a CULT.

Robertson is A CULT LEADER.

He's also insane.

And powermad.

Interesting how righties like Chinese imports (uh, China is a COMMUNIST COUNTRY), but they can't handle Cuba, or Venezuela, which is socialist, because it nationalized its oil industry.

The neocons have their pet dictators, and their pet communists, but they hate any of them that don't cooperate.

Hell, they don't like France, and France is a democracy. It's all a matter of who they can get to do their bidding.

If you don't cooperate with the Global Corporate Empire, you're an enemy, according to these evil fascists. Cooperation is WAY more important than your ideology or politics, because when you cooperate with the Global Corporate Empire, you make the neocons LOTS of money and give them LOTS of power to fuel their huge, insecure egos.

Also interesting how dumbass Robertson thinks Chavez would allow Muslim extremists to use Venezuela as a launchpad for terrorism. What on earth does Chavez have to do with Islam?

256. My letter of complaint to the FCC
I feel the remarks pat Robertson made on his Christian Broadcasting Network - the "700 Club" calling for the assassination of Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez on Monday August 22, 2005 were utterly indecent. I realize that he made his endorsement without using any four letter words or referencing excretory organs, but certainly there must be something in the FCC guidelines that prohibits against and sanctions the punishment for the promotion of the murder of a democratically elected leader of a sovereign nation?

It seems to me such remarks made by an individual of Robertson's prominence and highest of political contacts not only embarass America's citizens but also potentially compromise our welfare and safety by their inflammatory impact. Therefore I urge you to take the strongest of punitive actions against Robertson and the CBN network.

----

266. Why Pat Robertson's Statements Help Hugo Chavez: By TIM PADGETT
Why Pat Robertson's Statements Help Hugo Chavez

The Venezuelan President has long thrived on criticism from the U.S.
By TIM PADGETT

Posted Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has a new best friend this morning: television evangelist Pat Robertson. With his astonishing call for the left-wing leader's assassination last night—"I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it...We have the ability to take him out"—Robertson will have surely made Chavez an even more popular anti-yanqui icon in Venezuela, Latin America and around the world. Like his mentor Fidel Castro, Chavez thrives on threats from the U.S., real or perceived. He has long insisted that his foes are plotting to kill him, and this summer had armed civilians training with the Venezuelan military to prepare for what he says is an imminent U.S. invasion. A public effort to whack him, offered from the right-wing Christian establishment so closely aligned with President Bush, is just what Chavez needs to keep his approval ratings soaring as high as the price of the Venezuelan oil he controls, the largest crude reserves in the hemisphere.

Chavez is no doubt a source of concern for Washington, if only because Venezuela is America's fourth-largest foreign oil supplier. Chavez's erratic and often bellicose anti-U.S. rhetoric—he publicly called Bush an "ass____" in Spanish last year—as well as his desire to sell less oil to the U.S. and more to ideological allies like China, are hardly comforting as gas nears $3 per gallon. But neither is Chavez's embrace of nations like Iran, and nor is the fact that he's leading a politically potent (and, to the Bush Administration, potentially destabilizing) wave of angry neo-leftism in Latin America, from Argentina to Mexico.

But Chavez holds cards that make remarks like Robertson's all the more incendiary on the Latin American street, where language like "U.S. imperialism" suddenly has currency again. One is the past: Latin Americans have too many vivid and bitter memories of U.S. intervention in their countries—operations that sometimes included brazen assassinations —which is why the Bush Administration got burned by accusations it backed a failed coup against Chavez in 2002. Another is democratic legitimacy: Chavez, for all his authoritarian tendencies, is a democratically elected head of state who last year won a national recall referendum approved by international observers.

Perhaps an even more important factor is populist backing: leftism is on the rise again in Latin America for a reason, namely the burgeoning feeling around the region that a decade of U.S.-backed capitalist reforms has simply widened an already epic gap between rich and poor—and that the Bush Administration is indifferent to it. As Chavez uses his multi-billion-dollar oil revenues to fund the kind of social projects that Venezuela's legions of impoverished never saw from his kleptocratic predecessors—and to subsidize cheaper oil for his cash-strapped Latin neighbors—more people are willing to defend him, as most Latin leaders did last spring when Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice toured South America.

284. Loving God = Loving your neighbour
Somewhere in the Gospels, it is written that Jesus said: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and all your strengh. You shall also love your neighbour. There is no commandment greater than these'.

So, we have in Algebraic terms a simple equation, where:
X = love of God
Y = love of your neighbour
As Jesus put it: X = Y

Now Pat Robertson is saying that he loves God, but wants Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to be 'taken out'. So, Robertson says that, as he insists he's a Christian everyone is his neighbour, except for Hugo Chavez.

So in effect according to Robertson: X =
But as I wrote above: X = Y

Clearly, they can't BOTH be right!

Subject: Your devotion to Assassination

Dear Pat,

Recently, you asked for the assassination of Hugo Chavez on the 700 club.

You said there was a popular coup against Chavez that overthrew him, but Chavez won the recall vote by 60%. You advocated for Chavez's murder. The elected leader, Chavez, and the elected National Assembly have given the poor economic justice through Social Security and universal health care. It is a sin for you to advocate taking this away from the Venezuelan people through lies and murder.

You simply are not nice and I would like you to answer this. Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all?

I'm sure this came from a "word of knowledge" directly from the Lord. Yup, one of those late night calls Pat gets from God himself, telling him to drop a small nuke on Venezuela and bust a cap in Chavez.I can't understand why this fine man hasn't been tapped by this administration for Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State. With his expert knowledge of world events,he's just what this administration needs. Sarcasm will now be turned off!

Re: Pat Robertson's comment about assassinating Hugo Chavez

I just think it should be known that I consider this comment – broadcast over airwaves and cable to potentially every television in the United States and abroad – to be far more distasteful and morally reprehensible than Janet Jackson’s breast or any of the other items with sexual overtones that seems to take up the FCC’s oversight priorities.

I am asking that the FCC begin a full scale investigation IMMEDIATELY into this comment and pursue fines and legal remedies to the fullest possible extent of the law.

326. Great column: Pat Robertson is Not a Christian by Rev. Graylan Hagler
Pat Robertson is Not a Christian
by Reverend Graylan Scott Hagler

Pat Robertson suggested this past Monday that the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, be assassinated by operatives of the United States government! Though his comments are newsworthy because of his following in the 700 Club and his political stature and role in the political religious right, his comments however are out of synch with everything that has been handed down to us from the teachings of Jesus Christ. What I am suggesting here is that Pat Robertson and individuals of his ilk are not practicing or preaching Christ but have become adherents of a political movement in this nation that attempts to use Christianity towards their own narrow political ends. I believe that there is a role for Christianity in the events of the world, but the teachings of Christ leads us to love one another, strain and stretch to understand each other, and dare to know each other enough that we come to an understanding of one another and from that create a world that is not built on might and winning but on understanding and unity. Clearly the comments of Robertson defy the framework we find in the gospels of Jesus Christ.
Some may argue that Christ existed in another time and did not have an understanding of the kind of world we exist in today. But any follower of Jesus knows that as he was human and he was also fully God, and therefore his understanding of the world, humankind and our needs were not captive to a time but applies to all time! Knowing this I do not see anywhere in the gospels of Christ that he condones, suggests or advocates murder or political assassination! Instead Jesus reminds us to beware of Pharisees, and Robertson, Dobson and others have become the Pharisees of our contemporary world!

What do we find in the Good News of Christ? We find love is expressed continually and unceasingly. The gospels admonish us to do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. We finds words in the gospels that define the mission of Christians as the elevation of the poor, freedom for those who are oppressed, salvation for the lost, and hope for the hopeless. Jesus says come unto me all of you who are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest. He does not say come to me those who are looking for political expediency and I will show you who to and how to assassinate!

Sure there has been trouble in Venezuela, and some will suggest that it is communism struggling to raise it head. Others will suggest that the poor of Venezuela have been poor too long in a nation that is the 5th largest oil producer in the world. Some will suggest that too much of the resources have been in the hands of too few, and that the poor of the land have found hope in a political leader, Hugo Chavez. I would not suggest that Chavez is a saint, for no person is perfect, but I do know that Chavez was elected even while the greatest power in the world, the United States government, did everything possible to thwart his election. This is hardly the neighborliness that Jesus Christ calls us to emulate.

Mary Fowler, 54, Housekeeper

Why do you think gas prices are so high?

From what I've read, they say it's because of the Iraq war.
I've also read about alternatives to gas and even automobiles
that use alternatives, but for some reason, the big oil
companies bought up the patents for that, so it's not just the
Iraq war and it's not President Bush's fault. He gets blamed
for everything, but it's not his fault. It's just greed from
other people. I feel like the president is doing everything he
can to help.

Like what?

For one thing, he is protecting our country by being in Iraq.
We can't pull out too soon because they'll think we're chicken
and they'll try to attack us again. We can't pull out until
they're able to fend for themselves. Those who are strong are
supposed to help those who are weak. We are strong and we're
that way for a reason. We've always been peacemakers. As long
as we keep the peace, we'll be blessed.

So you believe we're acting as peacemakers in Iraq?

Yes and we're protecting the innocent. Muslims want to rule
the world. They want to take over the whole world. That's
their evil purpose.

[snip...]

Where do you get your information about the war?

The Bible and THE 700 CLUB. I also listen to preachers who
know what's going on. PAT ROBERTSON.

[snip...]

Have you always been Republican?

When I first registered, I was a Democrat. Just from studying
in school, I thought that's what I wanted to be because I
believed in government for the people, by the people and of
the people. But after I was saved, I realized the Republican
beliefs are me so I switched and I'm glad I did.

What does it mean to be a Republican?

Republicans pick the people who believe like we do.

You mean believe in the Bible?

Yes and godly principles. If we kick god out, we'll be like
other countries that have AIDS, sickness and poverty. God
created the earth, he created the rules and he knows what's
best for everybody.

Unfortunately, we have AIDS, sickness and poverty in this
country.

Yes, because we allow homosexuality.

You blame homosexuality for AIDS, sickness and poverty?

Well, sometimes people are innocent. This nation is in
trouble. The ACLU are run by communists and funded by
communists. What does that tell you? They want to take god
away from us.

[snip...]

I've interviewed a lot of people on this trip and while they
want freedom of religion, none have said they want to take god
away.

When they first started the country, those that didn't believe
in Jesus were put in jail. Once a country is dedicated to god
and founded on its principles, it has to stay that way.

What issues are most important to you?

Getting the right Supreme Court Justice in. I want god back in
the schools. They kick god out of schools and they wonder why
we have drugs and sex in the schools.

(At this point in our conversation, a gas attendant approached
me and said I couldn't interview people without permission
from the corporate office. I took a photo of Mary and her
Bible sticker and went on my way.)
