Bush Backers Amass to Counter 'Peace Mom'

A caravan proclaiming support for U.S. troops began a tour through California on Monday and stopped in the hometown of Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war mother who gained national prominence during a vigil outside President Bush's Texas ranch.

Conservative activists and military families embarked on a tour they are calling "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" and are planning rallies in several California cities before heading to Crawford, Texas.

"It's time to lay down the anger. We need to continue to uphold those people over there, to uphold those men and women with their boots on the ground," said Debra Johns, head of the Northern California Marine Moms, who helped organize the caravan.

"That's not the message being made" by the mother of the fallen soldier, Johns said during a rally in Sheehan's hometown, where about 30 Bush supporters gathered outside the Vacaville Reporter newspaper.

Dang, there were more people than that at any one of the "America Stands With Cindy" vigils! Must be Republican math... you know, like that "mandate" crappola.

How can anyone in their right mind support this war? I guess I answered my own question:)

52. I know! The AP thinks 30 rightwingers getting together is "Amass"!
But when 50,000 people take to the streets to protest bush policies, the AP has no qualms whatsoever about declaring it a "fringe group" or "radical factions" while slashing the numbers by an order of magnitude.

There is now no establishment group I hold in lower esteem than the so-called newsmedia provided by corporate broadcasters. Even the bushistas I can respect for their absolute ruthlessness and utterly hypocritical disregard for morality, I mean that takes some strength of will. But the media whores, all they take is money. I have nothing but contempt for them.

But you can bet all you have that all 30 of these idiots will be interviewed on every cable show there is, just like Anderson Cooper when he did an hour at Camp Casey and interviewed more right-wingers than the others.

Lets start to call these folks what they are WAR SUPPORTERS. Supporters of killing and maiming and destruction!! I am so tired of hearing the peace movement derided. "What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?!"

I wonder who'll they'll get to play a concert? Ted Nugent? He moved down to TX recently.

I also wonder how long they'll last, and if they'll follow Cindy to DC next month to get swallowed by the million or more of us who'll be there?

That's the beauty of freedom of speech and assembly - you get to see who REALLY believes what they say. They have 30. We win!

(on edit: rereading my post, I realize I sound harsh and competitive. I don't think that is normally my nature, but I won't pretend it's not how I'm feeling right now ;) )

13. Another "Brooks Brothers" Riot. Ask These Jerks Why They Aren't in Iraq!
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 07:23 PM by David Zephyr
What a farce!

This is about as extemporaneous as the "Mission Accomplished" banner that the White House had made up and then tried (but failed) to blame on some poor sailor just after George W. Bush's Masturbatory Military Moment on an aircraft carrier over two years ago.

The real spontaneous Republican "counter-demonstration" has already taken place: It was the night the Texan jackass drove his pickup truck all over the flags and crosses commemorating the fallen soldiers.

Also, every single pro-War supporter should be quizzed as to just why in the hell are they still here in America and not over there fighting in the war that they "support". That's how they can truly show that they support the war, by volunteering and letting another soldier come home. Tell them to put up or shut the fuck up.

59. I agree. They are not really "pro-"ANYTHING, because that would require...
...enough actual thought to form an opinion.

And they don't "think", they merely react to stimuli.
The patterns of stimulus/response are sometimes very complex,
to be sure, but they are patterns nevertheless.
They have no inner dialog, no "little voice."

They are nothing but SYCOPHANTS, parasites
on the B*shCabalInc™ Gravy Train.

They are TOADYS who kiss the ass of whomever
they percieve to be powerful,
and gleefuly proclaim how good it tastes.

At the end of the day, they believe NOTHING.
