Gunfights after Iraq police blast

Gunbattles have erupted in the streets of Baghdad after insurgents detonated car bombs in the path of an Iraqi police patrol.

At least two people, thought to be civilians, died in the blasts, and 10 others were hurt, police said.

Police then fought running battles with insurgents on the streets in a western area of Baghdad, witnesses said.

Gunmen used small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades to attack police in the aftermath of the bombings.
