Ex-Bush aide expected to be appointed to state high court
Don Willett, an Austin lawyer best known for helping President Bush set up faith-based government programs, is expected to be appointed today to the Texas Supreme Court.
....
Last December, Perry wanted to appoint Willett to the court but his nomination ran into trouble when it was presented to Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos, D-Austin.

Under the tradition of senatorial courtesy, gubernatorial appointments that must be confirmed by the Senate initially are run by the nominee's hometown senator. Objections by that senator can scuttle a nomination.....

Willett changed addresses in late December, leaving an apartment in downtown Austin for a suburban area in southern Travis County represented by Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio.
....
With Willett's appointment, Perry will have appointed five of the nine justices.
