Bush's War Stance Criticized on Sports Page

NEW YORK George W. Bush may be the fittest American president in awhile, and he once co-owned a major league baseball team, but as public unease about his country's Iraq adventure grows, is he even losing the sports pages?

Ian O'Connor, in his USA Today column today, blisters the president for his bicycle riding escapades, and other alleged missteps, while Americans are dying in Iraq in greater numbers. He recalls a better Bush moment at the 2001 World Series, after 9/11, contrasting it with the past weeks.

1. here's what the talented Mr. O'Connor had to say on the 22nd
...nobody wants to hear about his (Bush's) impressive pulse rate and body-fat percentages when American boys and girls are dying overseas

and (pointing out how Bush used his State of the Union address to talk about steroid abuse by athletes (...who among us hasn't been touched by this evil?), then stuck up for Palmeiro because he's a buddy:

Good grief. Bush called for reform, then railed against the reform.

Editorials on * in the sports section--there's nowhere for Bush to hide!

2. I got a good chuckle when I read the article this morning...
Looks like the only place he can hide is when he gives a speech since only supporters are allowed to attend!

3. "Bush on vacation, out of touch during tough times"
Great headline! I loved seeing this story today, in the sports section of all places!

4. Any idea what it's like for our troops?
in August in Iraq?

It's no day at the beach or the air conditioned ranchero, EVEN IF nobody were trying to kill you off.

5. He should go on a bike tour of Iraq: ya know, let the Iraqis toss flowers
at him and such ...
