Expulsions illegal, UN tells Clarke
A senior UN representative last night threatened to cite the British government for violation of human rights over its planned deportations of alleged terrorist sympathisers.

Manfred Novak, the UN human rights commission's special investigator on torture, told the Guardian he is seeking permission through the Foreign Office to visit Britain to discuss the issue with the home secretary, Charles Clarke.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Prof Novak said that the government's intention to return radical preachers to their countries of origin, even though some of those countries have a track record of human rights abuses, "reflects a tendency in Europe to circumvent the international obligation not to deport anybody if there is a serious risk that he or she might be subjected to torture".

His intervention came as Mr Clarke, in response to the London bombings, yesterday introduced a list of "unacceptable behaviour" which would allowing him to deport or exclude foreign citizens for glorifying or encouraging terrorism. Mr Clarke said the first exclusions and deportations would take place within the "next few days".

Looks like a Bolton/Clark isolation move.
Now we are just arguing about the price.

1. Well the UK
never deported Ian Paisley, and goodness knows I'd chip in for his fare.

2. Britain never had this type of terrorism laws introduced in the 70's
and 80's when the IRA was terrorizing london, so I wonder why they are now so compelled to introduce such controversial law?

5. They did indeed
and they took out Lord Mountbatten.

And they've won...the English are leaving N Ireland.

And Ireland will be united and free again.

The Irish have been fighting this war for 1000 years!

NO ONE gives up their homeland to invaders...ever.

Yet Blair has learned nothing at all from it.

7. United and free again?
It's my understanding that Ireland doesn't want Northern Ireland anymore. On account of it being loaded with members of a certain two groups of criminal scumbags

6. Perhaps it is our allies
In the 70s, the US tacitly (if not officially - it was, and probably still is, popular with the people if not the government) backed the IRA. Attempts to introduce such legislation would have been harshly criticised. But the US has set the pace in harsh and repressive reactions to this new wave of terrorism. Bliar knows the US won't criticise these measures.
